#APTipTuesday – A question from the venue contact for an event we’re working on is the inspiration for this week’s tip. The contact asked what the three most important expectations are that we have of their staff. Although it’s rare that you’ll be asked this customer service-forward question, make it a point to let your venue contact and other vendors know how their team can be most helpful in ensuring the success of your event. To help formulate some thinking around how you might articulate expectations, here’s what we provided to the venue contact: 1. Quick, helpful, and friendly responsiveness to our questions/concerns onsite; 2. Great tasting and well-presented food; 3. Each venue team member is proactive in making each guest feel welcome and comfortable. #annplans #nonprofitteventplanning #tiptuesday #eventplanning

An interesting story of the gradual decline of a once ubiquitous roadside diner in the UK. Seemingly a lack of vision, focus on profit, missing the opportunity to adapt to changing customer desires and habits, and a reluctance to keep the restaurants appealing to customers as it cost money. In some ways, the definition of the business is key. Was Little Chef providing a relatively cheap roadside restaurant (focus on sit-down meals), or was it providing sustenance for travellers (providing food to eat-in or takeaway)? Even that small difference changes how you innovate and change. Dashboards will help you to see if you're doing things right, but sometimes you need to step back and ask if you're doing the right things to attract and retain customers and staff. For businesses, you also need products that they want at a price they are willing to pay. For charities, you need giving options that they connect with and a way to engage the donors through sharing the impact your having. Can you spot whether your business or charity is in decline? Have you been ignoring the facts? Have you looked at the bigger picture recently? Contact us if you want help to think about how your business or charity is doing. https://lnkd.in/eKHck_Qe

An unexpected source of inspiration for development and fundraising! In the dynamic world of fundraising, seeking wisdom from diverse fields is key. One such gem I stumbled upon is Danny Meyer's book, "Setting the Table." Don't underestimate the power of the service industry as a source for words of wisdom. Meyer's philosophy teaches us that hospitality is more than a transaction—it's a dialogue. Whether you're cultivating donors or serving guests, the principles of genuine connection, empathy, and attention to detail remain paramount. By embracing these values, fundraisers can elevate their approach, fostering deeper relationships and driving impactful results. Let's continue to draw inspiration from unexpected sources and craft experiences that leave a lasting impression! https://lnkd.in/g7Q5gy_E

**Embracing the Charitable Assumption** A line from the book I’m currently reading, *Unreasonable Hospitality* by Will Guidara, has been on my mind lately: "Make the charitable assumption." This simple yet powerful idea encourages us to always assume the best in people even when they aren’t behaving well. In our daily interactions, whether at work, with friends, or in our communities, approaching each situation with kindness and understanding can make a world of difference. By making the charitable assumption, we create a more supportive and compassionate environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Let's strive to build a culture where empathy and generosity are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we can make our world a better place for everyone. #PositiveCulture #Empathy #CommunityFirst #UnreasonableHospitality

Diversity! It can only bring good things to the industry, it’s tiring being the only one in the room ALL the time. It’s hard for Trans* and gender non confirming folk in this industry, especially with 1/3 of all employers in the UK admitting they would not hire a transgender person - and hospitality being one of the worst industries (34%). Many of us are forced into the closet or into restrictive boxes of passing in order to progress in our career or simply feel safe at work, in toilets and locker rooms. Few feel workplaces are liberal enough to tolerate transgender workers, with only 4% of employers declaring their workplace culture diverse enough for transgender people to ‘fit in’. With time! Just keep going.
We're inviting people from across the UK drinks trade to join us for a consultative open meeting on 16 April at Vintners’ Hall from 1pm to 4pm. This is in response to the issues raised in a survey commissioned by Queena Wong and run by PROOF Insight, with the first aim of the programme being to tackle safeguarding. Those interested in attending should contact nicky.forrest@thisisphipps.com for further details.

🧐🧐You might be concerned about how others perceive you. Remember, your passion is the key to unlocking any door, while your skills keep it open. Passion comes first, and skills follow, but both are essential for success. Below is content from book of “unreasonable hospitality“: Every week, the general managers and chefs of USHG met around the big table in the boardroom at the offices in Union Square. At the end of the meeting, everyone would share their pet projects, and while I was the youngest person in the room, I was so excited about everything we were doing at MoMA, I talked more than anyone else there: "Guys, we got this amazing matte-black BUNN coffeemaker!" "I'm throwing a company-wide competition for best barista. Send your team, because I convinced a coffee company to donate a trip to Italy as a prize!" "You guys have to hear about this gelato cart— seriously, have you ever seen anything as perfect as this tiny blue spoon?" Daniel was probably irritated by how much I talked in those meetings. but he could sense a passion that made him think I might be a good match for the task ahead - the new GM for the new project. Counting on your passion, keep sharpening your skills! #unreasonablehospitality #passionfirst #skillschallenge
