A recent report by Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) highlighted concerning gaps in science education among Victorian students. For example,14% of Grade 6 students reported they’ve never had a science class—the highest rate in Australia. Compounding these challenges is the ongoing shortage of qualified science teachers, with dozens of positions currently unfilled across the state. Haileybury is passionate about access to a high quality education for all students across the disciplines; this belief is the driving force behind Haileybury Pangea, our online school. This summer, in addition to our Numeracy and Literacy classes, our Summer School is running a Science intensive. This program offers: ✅ Focused learning opportunities on core scientific principles ✅ Hands-on activities to foster curiosity and engagement ✅ Guidance from Haileybury's brilliant educators equipped to inspire and challenge students With fewer classroom opportunities to explore science, initiatives like this intensive are vital to bridging the gap, empowering students to excel academically while cultivating critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for the future. Learning doesn’t need to be lonely. Listen below to how our forward thinking partners are creating community in online learning!
While online learning has made education more accessible and flexible for students to fit into their lives, it often lacks the one thing we love the most about our favorite summer activities: Community. Hear from Amy Baldwin, Senior Lecturer of Literacy and Academic Success at the University of Central Arkansas, on how Honor helps bring community to her students even when learning asynchronously. 💙

What if this vision would become a reality? How many students would gain access to knowledge from experts across the globe in 1 day.? Creating a university with 200 classrooms, each representing a country registered with the United Nations Organization (UNO), offers several benefits: 1. Cultural Diversity and Exchange: This setup would foster a rich cultural exchange, promoting global understanding and cooperation among students and educators. Exposure to diverse perspectives and traditions would broaden students’ worldviews and prepare them for global citizenship. 2. Language Learning: Students would have the opportunity to learn different languages directly from native speakers, enhancing their language skills and improving their communication abilities in a multilingual world. 3. Global Networking: The university would provide a platform for building a global network of peers and mentors. These connections could be invaluable for future collaborations, both professionally and personally. 4. Innovative Teaching Methods: Educators from different countries would bring unique teaching methods and educational philosophies. This diversity could lead to the development of innovative and effective teaching practices, benefiting the entire academic community. 5. Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills: Exposure to various global issues and solutions would enhance students’ problem-solving skills. They would learn to approach problems from multiple angles and develop more comprehensive and creative solutions. 6. Promotion of Peace and Understanding: By bringing together people from different backgrounds, the university could play a role in promoting peace and mutual understanding. Students would learn to appreciate and respect differences, and foster a more harmonious world. 7. Interdisciplinary Learning: The diverse expertise of educators would allow for interdisciplinary learning, where students can explore subjects from multiple perspectives and understand the interconnectedness of global issues. 8. Enhanced Employment Opportunities: Graduates from such a diverse and internationally focused institution would be highly attractive to employers looking for candidates with global perspectives, language skills, and cultural competency. 9. Research and Innovation: The university could become a hub for international research collaborations, leading to groundbreaking discoveries and innovations. Diverse teams can produce more creative and effective solutions to complex problems. 10. Social and Emotional Growth: Living and learning in a multicultural environment would foster empathy, adaptability, and resilience among students, contributing to their overall personal growth and emotional intelligence. This vision of a university is ambitious and would require careful planning and resources, but the potential benefits for students, educators, and the global community are substantial. Listen to me carefully. I envision creating a university with 200 classrooms, the same number as the countries registered in the UNO. I plan to invite one educator from each country and assign them 25 students each. This way, there will be 200 teachers from 200 countries, each managing a class of 25 students. This university will offer education from playgroup to Ph.D., where children will experience academic life from day one. It will be a unique approach, allowing them to reflect on their lives, nature, and potential, guiding them through their education up to the Ph.D. level. This means we will have 200 global samples, 200 educators, and 200 classrooms, delivering an exceptional education to the world. It is my desire and prayer that I can one day make this vision a reality. it is an imaginary image of university

At Living Science, learning goes beyond academic excellence—and nothing exemplifies this better than our Middle School Expedition! This unique event blends hands-on learning, adventure, and unforgettable memories, all in an environment that fosters academic, personal, and spiritual growth. Every year, our middle school students embark on a journey to St. Simon’s Island that challenges them both academically and personally. This 5-day expedition is designed to immerse students in the wonders of science and nature, providing real-world applications of what they’ve learned in the classroom. From exploring diverse ecosystems to conducting field experiments, students are not just passive learners—they’re active participants in their education. What truly sets the Middle School Expedition apart is how it weaves together academic rigor and spiritual growth. Students are presented with the Gospel and are encouraged to grow in their faith. As they discover the beauty of the natural world, they also deepen their understanding of God’s creation and His plan for their lives. Many students even choose to be baptized in the ocean at Jekyll Island, marking a pivotal moment in their spiritual journey. Our students return from this adventure not only with a greater knowledge of the natural world but also with a stronger sense of community and purpose. At Living Science, we’re committed to developing the whole student, guiding them toward excellence in all areas of life. This is how we go beyond academic excellence. #DiscoverLivingScience #GoingBeyondAcademics #HandsOnLearning

The EdWeek State of Teaching survey, which polled a nationally representative sample of nearly 1,500 teachers in October 2023, found that teachers with three to nine years of classroom experience have worse morale than their peers who have either more or less experience. They are also less likely than teachers in other stages of their careers to say they’d recommend their own children, or those of a loved one, pursue a career in teaching. Why is this, and what can we do about it? Find out: https://vist.ly/zvxn #Education #Teaching

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝘀. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Traditional education focuses on WHAT to learn, emphasizing standardized tests and rigid benchmarks. This method can lead to a cycle of cramming and forgetting, missing the opportunity to educate the whole person. In contrast, classical education teaches students HOW to learn. It prioritizes critical thinking, effective communication, and a lifelong love of learning. By emphasizing skills over rote memorization, classical education helps students make connections across disciplines, preparing them for innovation and success beyond the classroom. Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade foster a deep understanding that empowers them to learn anything with confidence. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀: Math and reading scores from local school districts reported over half of students are not reading or performing math at grade level. 𝑾𝒉𝒚? Students are not taught how to solve a problem, but to remember just enough for a test score and move on to the next item. 𝑲𝒊𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅, 𝒖𝒏𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍. This is the traditional setting. At Lafayette Academy, we challenge that ideation and teach with compassion, virtues, and the ability to learn anything. Our classical students are reading at an 88% proficiency rate, compared to the 45% of students in a public school. THIS is what sets us apart and fosters a child who enjoys learning. Education is so much more than a test; it is raising children to be good citizens and people. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸.
