Hey, employers! The Centennial High School JAG classes would like to invite you to their Spring Hiring Fair on May 9. This is a unique opportunity for local businesses/organizations to conduct open interviews with soon-to-be high school graduates interested in a variety of fields. This hiring fair is unlike most hiring fairs in that it is a REVERSE fair; the students are the ones on display for this fair! Each student will have a table make that best represents his/her desired career and educational aspirations. They will be showcasing what they are hoping to do and they types of jobs they are looking for. Employers can then walk around to talk to specific students who best fit the job/apprenticeship which they are looking to fill. The goal of this hiring fair is to have all students either be offered a job, apprenticeship, or enrollment into a specific post-secondary training program that gives them valuable experience in their desired career fields. If interested, please contact CHS JAG teacher Megan Haynes at megan.haynes@wcs.edu. If you know of other employers or apprenticeship programs who might be interested in attending, please share the our flyer with them!

Seeing a lot of posts with quick tips for students attending career fairs. Here's a few quick tips for recruiters or on-campus reps! 👨💻 77% of students report interacting with an employer at a career fair increases their likelihood of applying - so stay encouraged! 👉 About 80% of students want specific advice about interviewing or applying. Ask students questions about themselves and then offer personalized advice. ⭐️ Over 90% of students want to know about compensation before the offer process. Share at least a range if you can. If you're not able to, be very clear about your employer's benefits, and about students' number 2 decision making driver – work-life balance. "💡" react if you'd like for me to send you our 3 page checklist with other key data points and quick tips

2nd chance employers are so critical to supporting our communities and addressing inequity in our workplaces. The Prison Policy Initiative conducted a study that showed the #1 predictor of recidivism (the tendency for convicted offenders to reoffend) was poverty. An additional supporting study by the United States Sentencing Commission concluded that if a citizen transitioning out of the prison system can find stable employment within one year of release, the recidivism rate reduces by 40%. Providing access to stable employment to those that have a criminal history needs to be a bigger part of rehabilitating those who commit crimes. It is not talked about enough, nor are there sufficient resources in the justice system currently to support it. This work has to be done, especially to combat systematic oppression of historically marginalized groups due to the racial and ethnic disparities present in the criminal justice system. CareerSource Pinellas is helping to do that work. 👏 If your organization is a 2nd Chance Employer, or you know someone who is, please see below.
Vice President of Business Services overseeing Organizational Development and Workforce Program Management | Advocate for Veterans and Persons with Disabilities | Career Transition Coach

Going to a hiring fair? It’s guaranteed to be saturated, but you can make the most of it with this step-by-step game plan! 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴. Look at the companies attending and their current job openings. Even if there's no immediate opening, if a company you're targeting is there, it's worth going. If there is nothing of interest to you - you’re day can be spent doing more productive tasks. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵. Check LinkedIn for people working the booths. Look for company posts about the fair, see who likes them, and identify folks in talent acquisition, people coordination, or employee success. Connect with them before the event. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹. Contact those you've identified with an email like like: "Hi Sam, I noticed your company will be at the Toronto hiring fair next Wednesday. As the talent coordinator, will you be at the booth? I plan on going to learn more about the opportunities your company has open. Cheers!" This sets up a warm introduction for the day of the event. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟰: 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁. Arrive an hour early. Have a resume printed for each job you’re interested in. At the top of each resume, handwrite the company name, the job title, and the job ID (if applicable). Get those resumes in the right hands! 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟱: 𝗕𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. Focus on booths relevant to you. Ideally, you’ve connected with someone before the event – make sure to meet them! – If you read the above and thought, "That’s a decent strategy, but connecting with strangers like that is kinda creepy," you’re right, it can be. But here’s the thing, it’s all about how you approach it. Be genuine, professional, and pleasantly curious. People appreciate authenticity, and it can set you apart in a crowded environment.
