There's a lot to be said for perfect packages of software running on dedicated hardware. Take Macs, which unlike PCs (and their endless driver issues and incompatibities), have always been packaged as hyper-optimized unions of hardware and software. You can't add your own components and you can't (officially) run MacOS on non-Apple hardware because if you could, that assured compatibility and optimization would go out the window. The pocket-sized AI device #RabbitR1 is another great new example of software and hardware delivered as a single package. The jury's out on how useful it'll actually be, but I commend Rabbit for trying to do something new. And at the very non-pocket-sized end of the spectrum you have the #MillenniumM1, a new supercomputing behemoth from Cadence Design Systems. Dedicated #HPC hardware, optimized to run some very smart, very complex multiphysics simulation software indeed. Good things come in neat HW/SW packages.

It's taken a few years to come, and like many photonics things, it will likely take a few more to mature... But it's here to stay... Cadence unveils a new silicon photonics flow to support TSMC’s Compact Universal Photonic Engine (COUPE) technology: Cadence and TSMC collaborate to develop a design flow for the COUPE 3D photonics process that features the Cadence Integrity 3D-IC platform. The TSMC COUPE technology enables the heterogeneous integration of photonics ICs with electrical ICs while minimizing coupling losses. The developing design flow from Cadence will support TSMC’s COUPE technology and includes the Cadence Spectre X Simulator, Virtuoso Studio, EMX 3D Planar Solver and Pegasus Verification System, enabling joint customers to meet the most demanding system requirements and pave the way for high-performance computing applications. Day 10 of #100daysamplifierdesign Have you ever wondered how complex integrated circuits are designed verified? SPICE netlists play a crucial role! A SPICE netlist is like a blueprint for your circuit, describing its components and connections in a language that simulators understand. This allows us to analyze circuit behavior BEFORE fabrication – saving time, money, and unnecessary debugging. Let's take an example: the Inverter! An inverter is the fundamental building block of digital circuits. Here's a SPICE netlist for a simple inverter: ~Vin 1 0 DC 1V ; Input Voltage Source (1V) Vdd 2 0 DC 5V ; Power Supply (5V) Rload 3 0 10k ; Load Resistor M1 3 2 1 0 ; NMOS transistor (connect Drain, Gate, Source, Bulk) .model NMOS NMOS (LEVEL=3 VTO=0.7 KP=20u LAMBDA=0) ; NMOS transistor model parameters .op ; Operating Point Analysis .tran 1n 10u ; Transient Analysis (1ns to 10us) .end~ This netlist defines the inverter circuit with a voltage source (Vin) for the input, a power supply (Vdd), a load resistor (Rload), and the NMOS transistor (M1). The transistor model parameters are specified using the .model statement. Using SPICE simulators, we can perform various analyses on this netlist: Operating Point Analysis (.op): This calculates the DC voltages and currents at each node in the circuit, helping us determine the transistor's biasing point. Transient Analysis (.tran): This simulates the circuit's behavior over time, allowing us to visualize how the output voltage changes with respect to the input voltage. By analyzing the SPICE simulation results, we can: Verify inverter functionality: Ensure the output correctly inverts the input signal. Optimize transistor sizing: Adjust transistor parameters for desired performance (e.g., speed, power consumption). Predict circuit behavior: Analyze noise margins, rise/fall times, and overall circuit performance before fabrication. Mastering SPICE netlist empowers IC designers to create, analyze, and refine circuits efficiently, paving the way for successful chip design! #Spice #ICDesign #ElectronicDesign #Engineering #100daysamplifierdesign Pipeloluwa Olayiwola Faraday Intel Corporation NVIDIA

In case you have not seen Mark Russinovich talk about #microfluids at #Ignite, here's a must read article. Takes about 5 minutes. Husam Alissa, director of systems technology at #Microsoft, sees #microfluids as an exciting future option: “In microfluidics, sometimes referred to as embedded cooling, 3D heterogenous, or integrated cooling, we bring the cooling to the inside of the silicon, super close to the active cores that are running the job.” https://lnkd.in/eYHaRAZk

We would like to highlight our case namely the Spectricity's Evaluation Kit. -- About Spectricity -- Spectricity, known for its multispectral camera chips, developed a GPU-based evaluation kit (EVK) to help users test and integrate their chips easily. This innovation sparked increased interest in Spectricity’s products. -- Project Challenges -- To create the EVK, Spectricity needed expert assistance to turn their requirements into a functional product. They turned to VAEngineering, who developed a detailed plan. The EVK had to be built on the NVIDIA Jetson platform, which was new to Spectricity and presented challenges. VAEngineering’s experience with Jetson helped them manage the complexities, handling both electronics and mechanical design while Spectricity focused on software development. -- Testing Phase -- Five prototypes were initially produced for internal testing. Some issues, such as interference from an old lamp, were identified. VAEngineering quickly resolved these issues, allowing production to continue, resulting in about 100 evaluation kits. -- Collaboration -- Spectricity valued the smooth and high-quality collaboration with VAEngineering, having previously worked with them on smaller PCB projects. The team’s effective communication and their network, which included a company for the device’s enclosure, were key to the project’s success. If you want to read more about this case study, you check it out on our website! #casestudy #spectricity #engineering #electronics #project #inthespotlight
