A huge win for sustainability! The Scottish Government's Circular Economy Bill has officially passed parliament. This is a significant step forward for responsible resource management, and it has the potential to be a game-changer for many nations. What excites me most? The bill moves beyond just recycling. It recognizes it as a crucial step, but not the end goal. Instead, it pushes for a systemic shift towards a circular economy, where resources are kept in use for as long as possible. This could involve designing products for repair and reuse, extending lifespans, and encouraging responsible consumption. Here's why, I think, this bill holds so much promise: Local Focus: Waste will be dealt with as locally as possible, empowering local authorities to tackle waste issues through specific targets. This approach drives change at the community level, fostering a sense of ownership. Clear Framework for Action: The bill outlines a comprehensive strategy with regular reviews, ensuring continuous improvement. Tangible Goals: Local governments will have clear targets, empowering them to drive change within their communities. Critical Mineral Management: Responsible recycling of critical minerals like copper and lithium, essential for clean technology, is a key focus. Shared Responsibility: Households and businesses will be encouraged to actively participate in the circular economy. Prioritizing Reuse: The waste hierarchy prioritizes reuse over recycling of unsold goods. Strategic Direction: The bill provisions for a waste route map, providing a clear path towards achieving the ambitious target of growing Scotland's circularity from 1.3% to 7.5% by 2030. This bill sets a strong example to follow in building a more sustainable future. #Scotland #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteManagement

Keep Britain Tidy has unveiled a revamped waste hierarchy aimed at encouraging mindful shopping and reuse, pushing the UK closer to a circular economy. Their research highlights a prevalent misunderstanding among the public, with many wrongly equating recycling as the top priority in waste management, overshadowing the greater importance of reduction and reuse. The refreshed hierarchy offers clear, visually appealing guidance to improve understanding and adoption of more sustainable behaviours. With 71% of respondents finding the new approach straightforward, the initiative seeks to shift societal norms towards minimising consumption and maximising reuse, beyond merely recycling. The circular economy advances when procurement prioritises recycled products, and when waste levies increase. ResourceCo commends the Victorian Government for doing both; specifically following this week’s budget news that the waste levy will increase. The waste levy increase and Victoria’s nation-leading ‘Recycled First’ policy are two major decisions supporting increased resource recovery and the minimisation of landfilling. As a leader within the resource recovery sector, ResourceCo is supportive of these steps towards ensuring 'waste' is never wasted. 👏 Tim Pallas & Steve Dimopoulos Recycling Victoria Sustainability Victoria #circulareconomy #recycle #recycling 📸: ResourceCo’s Brooklyn recycling facility, where materials are diverted from landfill and remanufactured into new products for the Victorian market.

♻️♻️♻️ March 18 marks Global Recycling Day, and this year's theme RECYCLING HEROES, is celebrating the unsung champions of sustainability . In a world crippling with pressing global issues, recycling emerges as a formidable way, offering multifaceted benefits cultivated over years of dedicated efforts. Recycling serves as a powerful mitigator of global challenges, notably tackling the escalating waste crisis. By diverting materials from landfills and incinerators, recycling minimizes pollution, conserves energy, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, crucial steps in combating climate change. Furthermore, recycling fosters a circular economy paradigm, where resources are perpetually reused, slashing the demand for virgin materials and alleviating the strain on ecosystems. This shift not only promote environmental resilience but also spurs economic growth, generating employment opportunities and driving innovation in waste management technologies. On this Global Recycling Day, we salute🫡 our PLOGGAS, the real Recycling Heroes. Their tireless efforts inspire collective action towards a waste free future for all.
