How can we take advantage of decarbonisation to re-industrialise Europe and gain in energy and industrial sovereignty? Insightful discussions at the opening plenary of MIX.E on "Between decarbonisation and re-industrialisation: Europe at work!" EBA Secretary General Giulia Cancian shared valuable insights during the session. She emphasised the significant growth potential of sustainable biogas and biomethane, highlighting their synergies with the electrification of our energy mix. Giulia also shed light on how EU biogases play into the energy trilemma, addressing ✔️ energy security, ✔️ environmental sustainability, and ✔️ energy equity. Moreover, Giulia explained that their benefits go far beyond the reduction of greenhouse emissions. 📌 Biogases are well placed to deliver significant, long-term socio-economic benefits, thereby supporting the transition to a more sustainable and circular economy. #biogas #biomethane #sustainable #energy

Low carbon industrial clusters provide the opportunity for low carbon investment that will grow regional economies, protect skilled jobs, and create new employment opportunities in the energy technologies and industries of tomorrow. The Solent Cluster is the only project of its kind in the region and is backed by companies with the technical expertise and global track record of delivering cost effective low carbon solutions. This effort could position the Solent at the centre of low carbon fuel production in the UK and make a major contribution to the country’s Net Zero ambitions by 2050 Learn more about the unique opportunities and challenges faced by The Solent Cluster in the socioeconomic report created in association with Blunomy and ERM: https://lnkd.in/e5TzQUbV #Hydrogen #Decarbonization Amy McDonald, Lorenzo Danzi, Simon Randall, Silvian Baltac, Matt Wilson, Hannah Galbraith-Olive

🚀𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝! 🚀 What a day at the @Fachkongress Holzenergie 2024 organized by Bundesverband Bioenergie (BBE) in Würzburg! 🌿 After many discussions about Carbon Removal and its certification, today’s event truly grounded me. Here are some of the key takeaways: 🌳 Hubert Aiwanger delivered a passionate speech on the energetic use of woody biomass. 📊 Prof. Dr. Andreas W. Bitter illustrated the complexities of biomass use – a real bureaucratic challenge! 🌍 Susanne Iost highlighted crucial differences between resource types and use cases. 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒'𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜: Is sustainably sourced biomass truly sustainable? 🤔 You bet! The experts are clear. What resonated most with me was @Dr. Denny Ohnesorge's call for a common language to communicate the facts. The Deutscher Holzwirtschaftsrat e.V. is leading the charge with the #HolzrettetKlima campaign – join the movement! 🌱 While I missed discussions on forward-looking paths like Biochar Carbon Removal (#BCR) today, they’ll be on tomorrow’s agenda. Let’s connect if you're attending, or find me as I’m stepping in for Marcel Huber tomorrow. 🙌 German Biochar e.V. (Fachverband Pflanzenkohle e.V.) Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. 🙌 Today, our EUSEW policy session on integrating biomethane into energy communities attracted a diverse group of stakeholders from the energy sector, including policymakers, industry experts, civil society, and academia. Our speakers provided different perspectives on this important topic: 🔹 Biljana Kulisic, Policy Officer from the European Commission DG ENER, provided a high-level perspective on the environmental and socio-economic benefits of the biomethane sector and the Commission’s plans to scale up biomethane within the energy mix. 🔹 Professor Mirjam Röder Roeder from Aston University emphasised the importance of community engagement: “Farmers don’t want to be energy users only; they want to be part of and benefit from the intervention.” 🔹 Josh Roberts from REScoop.eu shared insights on the role of cooperatives in the bioenergy sector moving forward. 🔹 Giulia Cancian from the European Biogas Association presented realistic estimates for biomethane production in Europe, envisioning continued development towards 2040. 🔹 Nevin Alija, Member of the Global Future Energy Leaders, underscored the opportunity to harness the younger generation's potential in driving the energy transition, leveraging their technological adeptness to optimise biomethane production processes and explore innovative uses of organic waste. 🔹 Pierre Duvieusart from GIE - Gas Infrastructure Europe stressed the crucial role of European infrastructure in accelerating biomethane development. 🌿 They highlighted the numerous benefits of integrating biomethane: economic growth in rural areas through job creation and cost-effective waste management, creating a source of organic fertilizer, while also supporting decentralised energy supply chains. Delivering large environmental benefits by reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Contributing to promote energy security by lowering energy costs and fostering citizens’ commitment to the energy transition. As we look towards 2050, mobilising all stakeholders—from local communities, waste handlers, and biogas producers to farmers—is crucial for establishing robust supply chains for sustainable biomethane. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this vital discussion. Together, we can drive the energy transition forward! It is pleasing to be shortlisted in The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) "AD Research and Innovation Awards" for 2024. The collaborative effort with Ixora Energy Limited is demonstrating Dark Fermentation of agricultural feedstocks at commercial scale. The result is a new source of #biohydrogen and boosted conversion rates of #biomethane. SMASH technology might just rewrite #anaerobicdigestion industry operating models...
We are very excited to announce that Ixora and ALPS Ecoscience UK Ltd have been shortlisted for the 2024 AD and Biogas Industry Awards’ ‘AD Research and Innovation’ category. This is thanks to our ground breaking collaboration on the SMASH project; the first commercial scale production of biohydrogen in the UK. The benefits of producing biohydrogen are manifold, not least because it could produce a clean fuel source for transportation, bringing us ever closer to our Net Zero goals! It was great to join the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue #betd today and bring biogas and biomethane to the global stage of the Energiewende! ⏲️ Two years after the REPowerEU the 35 bcm/y target for biomethane is still key, with sector working hard to scale up. We must accelerate! ♻️🚜When we talk about biogas and biomethane it would be wrong to describe them simply as renewable energy carriers. Their co-products (digestate and bioCO2) bring sustainable solutions to agriculture and industry. AD is also key to curb farming and waste management emissions. 💨And finally, bioCO2 makes the difference: supplying a sustainable and circular feedstock to the market and opening the door to CDR! Following the EU elections it's important to understand the biogas sector, its impact, and how it plays a key role in making Europe greener and more sustainable. So, what exactly is biogas? Well, it's a renewable energy source that's made from organic matter like household and industrial waste, sewage sludge, urban wastewater, and even manure. It's pretty amazing because it takes all this waste and turns it into valuable energy, which helps us reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. If you want to learn more, the European Biogas Association has prepared a video that you should definitely check out. It's packed with even more information about #biogas and how it's making a difference in our world. Watch now: https://lnkd.in/eEVMux8m
