Blunomy is pleased to have supported Alliance ALLICE, a French industrial alliance, in its thinking on the mobilisation of biomass resources to decarbonise French industry, through an extensive analysis of national and regional projections of biomass availability and demand. This review of multiple forecasts and scenarios shows that significant opportunities to expand bioresource supply exist but remain unlikely to meet the growing demand for bioenergy, potentially leading to major shortages of biomass in the coming years. As competition for bioresources has already begun with companies scrambling to secure biomass supply, it is more important than ever to think about the conditions for an appropriate biomass loop at all scales. Blunomy believes that biomass will only be a relevant lever for decarbonisation if its use is organised around clear priorities and resources are managed in a sustainable way: • Bioresources will be a critical piece of the decarbonisation puzzle – but their use beyond ecosystem services (carbon sink, biodiversity habitat, etc.) must be kept as frugal and limited as possible for an orderly and just transition • The most critical transition uses of biomass must be addressed as a priority, based on the availability and affordability of non-biogenic alternatives, while biomass ecosystem services need to be better assessed and monetised • Standardised and rigorous impact studies are required to restrict biomass availability modelling to resources that are indeed low-carbon, with mitigated environmental and social impacts, and which foster the deployment of sustainable agriculture and forestry practices • Sustainable biomass supply chains will need to be structured and scaled (e.g., increasing biowaste utilisation, monetising marginal or abandoned land and intermediate cropping) • Policymakers must play a key role in creating the conditions for a more sustainable biomass market, taking a holistic view of biomass supply and defining local merit orders which incorporate local specificities   See our infographic below for more details! ReThink HK is always the place to be in Hong Kong to gauge the sustainability momentum in Hong Kong and the APAC region. This is Blunomy's second year at ReThink HK - we participated in two discussion panels on implementing sustainability action plans and #SAF. The main takeaway is that all players at the conference are committed to reaching major decarbonisation milestones by 2030: "comprehensive approach to transition", "climate risk mitigation", and "low-carbon energy access" are keywords and phrases mentioned by the delegates. Blunomy helps its clients on these important topics, as well as aligning with new regulations and market frameworks (#CSRD #ISSB #CarbonPricing) Congratulations and thank you, once again, to Chris Brown ♻️, for continuing to be in the driver's seat to foster change in Hong Kong.

At Blunomy, we’re pleased to support AgroBiothers Laboratoire, a French leader in the pet care industry, in its Scope 3 carbon footprint assessment and decarbonisation roadmap, a critical and strategic step towards the decarbonisation of its entire value chain.   Blunomy is committed to supporting its clients along their decarbonisation journey, providing advisory support on decarbonisation strategies on all scope across various sectors.   While more and more companies are implementing strategies to meet short-term Scope 1 & 2 targets, decarbonisation of the entire value chain by addressing Scope 3 emissions is becoming increasingly challenging, as it requires companies to question the sustainability of their business models. Reducing Scope 3 carbon footprint requires an understanding of the complexity of the supply chain, in order to improve the traceability of products and raw materials. Engagement with customers and suppliers is also key to increasing the impact of decarbonisation beyond the company's activities, and contribute to the transition of the whole value chain.

What's the potential for biomethane in our gas networks and what benefits could it bring to our economy? Our recent work with Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) to estimate the biomethane potential within their gas network catchment explores this very question.   Using Blunomy's innovative approach that harnesses our data analytics capability to quantify and locate specific feedstocks, the report highlights the biomethane potential and levelised cost within a 50km catchment of AGIG's gas network. Furthermore, we estimate the co-benefits associated with biomethane production through job creation, avoided carbon emissions from natural gas displacement, diversion of waste from landfill and contribution to a circular economy.   A link to the report can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/edAe9VTy   Blunomy is at the forefront of supporting key stakeholders in developing the biomethane sector and to seize the opportunity. Our recent series of biomethane briefs provides insights on a rapidly changing market and our recent collaboration with GRDF provides a "State of the Art" report into green gas technologies.   You can find the biomethane briefs and the GRDF report here: https://lnkd.in/eaf6QYNU   #renewablegas #biomethane #biogas #energytransition

【Report Launch︱報告發表】On 16 August, we are set to unveil our latest report, " Hong Kong’s Role in Enabling Credible Energy Transition Finance”. Hong Kong is actively positioning itself as a global nucleus for sustainable finance, implementing progressive policies to bolster the credibility of financial instruments such as green bonds and loans. Despite these strides, a crucial need exists for sharper definitions surrounding transition finance to bolster Mainland China's decarbonisation endeavours. 思匯政策研究所於8月16日發表最新報告《香港如何促進可信能源轉型金融發展》。香港矢志成為全球綠色和可持續金融樞紐,並實施政策以提高綠色債券和相關貸款等金融產品的可信度。儘管取得不少進展,但我們仍需要對轉型金融有更清晰的定義,以進一步推動中國內地的減碳工作。   The recent introduction of the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance represents a pivotal move towards delineating technologies conducive to a low-carbon future. Yet, it falls short in certifying whether an investment genuinely supports the transition towards this net zero horizon. The complexity lies in key areas such as methane, hydrogen, and carbon capture. In some cases, investments in such technology might help to accelerate our decarbonisation efforts, whilst in other cases the same investments may actually harm our chances of keeping global temperature rise below 2 degrees. 香港金管局於年中發表的香港可持續金融分類目錄,大大有助業界釐清有利於低碳未來的綠色技術,但此分類目錄並不足以證明一項投資是否真正支持轉型至向淨零水平。部分主要減碳範疇情況較為複雜,如甲烷、氫能和碳捕獲技術等,於特定情況投資這些技術可能有助於加快減碳,然而,同樣的投資亦有機會可能會削弱把全球升溫控制在攝氏2 度或以下的機會。 Energy companies must establish and communicate robust net-zero transition plans with clarity regarding the ambition and credibility of both individual and national transition strategies. The objective of this report is to assist companies, investors, and regulators in comprehending the intricacies of transition finance in the energy sector. This report aims to examine global advancements in transition finance and its application to decarbonise global energy systems while highlighting Hong Kong's potential role in this domain.   能源公司必須制定穩健的淨零排放轉型計劃並就此溝通,且明確表明個別和國家轉型策略的抱負和可信度。本報告的目的是協助企業、投資者和監管者理解能源產業轉型金融的複雜性,並旨在研究轉型金融的全球進展及其在為全球能源系統減碳中的應用,同時強調香港在此範疇的潛在角色。 Read the report here︱按此查閱報告全文(只提供英文版本) https://lnkd.in/gM5a_B43  Check out our latest Newsletter 閱讀全文👉 https://bit.ly/46MHjXG Subscribe here 訂閱思匯通訊!👉 https://bit.ly/3wFV5tN   In This Newsletter (16 Aug 2024) 1.
