The recent Senate hearings, which questioned social media leaders like Mark Zuckerberg, surprised me by: 1) Not having Elon, as the head of X, participate in the grilling. 2) How Snap Inc. broke ranks and began backing a federal bill that would actually create a legal liability for apps and social platforms that recommend harmful content to minors. And then I see this campaign announcement in the post below 👇. Note that Snapchat's been slept on for years, and has now made a dramatic, intelligent, and timely decision to separate itself from "social." That's something Facebook tried but failed at. It changed it's name to Meta, bought WhatsApp, and even announced huge investments into virtual worlds. But what they didn't do was proactively fix the core problem. And although Facebook and Meta are still printing money and driving investor profit, we will see how long that lasts and if politicians take real action. This will be fascinating to watch.

Less #socialmedia, more #Snapchat! That’s the tagline for Snap Inc.'s latest marketing campaign. A campaign that is intended to show people what the platform is, and is not… what they stand for, and what they don’t. 👻 "We may look like social media to some, but #Snapchatters know we’re not. Now, we’re showing the rest of the world that we’re not social media, we’re Snapchat." 📌 While Snap Inc. is unique in its own way, other platforms like Pinterest, Reddit, Inc. & TikTok have also expressed similar sentiments… one of creating a more 'authentic' place for people. A more positive internet, a community, a place that encourages creativity and collaboration — all of it is great to see.
