Our recent research findings, done in partnership with The Womb and presented by Kawal Shoor at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity reveal fascinating insights into the state of marketing in India. The survey, involving a sample group comprising 33% CEOs, 17% CFOs and 50% CMOs revealed that many C-suite executives in India do not believe that marketing demonstrates commercial value or drives behaviour change. These findings show that it’s a new world out there that needs new marketing. As India assimilates into a more borderless world, consumers have also changed. The reason why this works is that, when u Google, you spontaneously search for what you are subconsciously looking for. Hence, while planning our professional journeys, we can't visualise profiles like Thought Leader, Entrepreneur or Founder. A couple of weeks have passed since the annual MRSI seminar in Mumbai but the energy we experienced is still going strong! Thank you Mitali Chowhan, Diana Moraru and team for this exciting opportunity Along with presenting our paper on how to effectively work with creators to grow brands, we also heard expert insights from industry leaders. Here are a few thoughts that really stood out to me, that we heard from this panel of eminent speakers, including Shuvadip Banerjee, Nithya Komanduri, Chandan Mukherji, Saugato Bhowmik, Siddhant Mazumdar and Karthik Nagarajan - Data is our biggest ally. As insight professionals, we need to keep coming back to this, and always keep in mind that data can reveal so much, so quickly! - When it comes to the younger mobile-first gen, it isn't their attention deficit that's the real problem, but rather engagement is the real issue. Reframing it this way puts things within our control. - It's time to start thinking, what does new age influencer marketing look like and how can brands stand out in the clutter? Is it gaming? UGC? The jury is still out on this one... - More than meaningless numbers, credible followers are way more important. Content creation has been democratized in India and going deeply vernacular could be a game changing strategy - What about start-ups? Agile innovation and testing consumer affinity in a nimble way is key for brand incubation.
