📝We are happy to share our #newpublication in Food Chemistry by Kyriaki Tsirtsidou, Yang Zou, Robbens Johan, and Katleen Raes entitled "𝐏𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧-𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬".   🔎In this study, a blend of low and medium #molecularweight chitosan was used for the first time to improve the stability and properties of pectin-chitosan #hydrogels in the presence of an aqueous strawberry extract. This study showed that manipulating the molecular weight range of chitosan would allow the formation of more stable gels, which could enhance the delivery of the bioactive berry #phenolic compounds during digestion. 💡 Interested? Today, I presented my thesis project "Investigating the presence of yeast in ensiled Multispecies and Perennial Ryegrass-White clover grasses using PCR" as part of the Master in Agricultural Biotechnology from Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland. It investigates the possible application of genetic technology in relation to the New Zealand food and fibre system, looking at the associated environmental impacts and risks. Research funding to make better life happen! We're happy to share that one of our R&D projects based on Fermentation Technology has received funding to develop microbial cell factories for the production of specific fatty acids. 🧪 It is another great achievement by our fantastic R&D team, and we are happy that the funding will be able to support the development of advanced metabolic engineering tools to generate novel microbial strains that may be of great relevance to the industry going forward. The project will be a vital step towards innovative bio-based solutions for better food, health, nutrition, and personal care products. 🥪🧴 The funding is granted to AAK and Chalmers University by Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) within the “Industrial Biotechnology and Environmental Biotechnology” platform.
