Passionate Dietitian | School Nutrition Advocate | Leadership & Communications Trainer | Community Wellness | Using Innovative Strategies to Increase Meal Access to Students
Breakfast has always been the most important meal of the day. Because it sets the foundation for everything that follows. So, for those who skip it, I ask: → If students don’t eat breakfast, how can they stay focused in class? → Why compromise their energy levels before the day even begins? → Is it worth risking their academic performance? In my experience, and that of many experts, skipping breakfast leads to: → Poor concentration and memory → Low energy and mood swings → Decreased academic performance So, students, parents, and educators, let’s treat breakfast as a non-negotiable necessity. If we want our students to excel, a nutritious breakfast is the solution, not a problem. Let’s make breakfast a must-have for every student. 📢 Exciting News from Food Paradigm! 🍎 Our School Lunch Program is set to revolutionize school food! We’re bringing scratch cooking techniques, whole ingredients, and a focus on nutrition, taste, and education to school cafeterias. 📚🍴 🌟 BIG IDEA #1: 🌟 Collaborate! It doesn’t make sense to just tell the school what or how to do it. We are working in partnership with the school. Our end goal is to make sure we have a repeatable, sustainable, effective AND implemented solution. Collaborate not just with the school but with other area partners. We team up with schools or districts, assessing kitchen readiness and forming partnerships between Food Paradigm and the school to facilitate scratch kitchen cooking. We then forge connections with local farmers and suppliers, while also collaborating with other community organizations. By implementing these steps, Food Paradigm’s School Lunch Program will not only transform school meals but also empower students, staff, and parents to embrace healthy eating habits and sustainable food practices. #SchoolLunchRevolution #HealthyEating #FoodEducation #FoodParadigm #ScratchCooking

It's The Week of the Young Child! Tasty Tuesday isn’t just about eating your favorite snacks together. It’s also about cooking together 🧑🍳👩🍳 and connecting math with literacy skills and science while introducing ways to incorporate healthy habits into children’s lifestyles. Here's an easy idea to incorporate some learning while walking through the grocery store next time or even at home using the food containers in your kitchen. Look for letters everywhere—on food labels, signs in the store, and magazines on the racks at checkout. Give your child a packaged food item, like a box of cereal. Point out different letters (start with the first letter in your child’s name) on the food item and ask your child to find more of those letters on other foods in the store. #ECEwins #WOYC24 #TastyTuesday #OHSAI #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart

I Empower Educators, Parents, & Guardians to Embrace the Power of Connection to Support Young Children’s Learning | DAF Training & Curriculum Specialist | Conscious Discipline & Gentle Parenting Junkie | Military Spouse
Back again with bringing you Week of the Young Child through a behavior lens 🔎 Tasty Tuesday is all about nutritious, yummy food but what about those picky eaters in your classroom or the challenging behaviors that arise during meal times? Here are my top tips for challenging behavior around food. ⭐️Have a child that’s always on the move when eating? Introduce a wobble cushion in their chair. Wobble cushions are not only a great sensory regulation tool but also set a boundary of movement for a child and their body. Essentially it helps children focus on how they sit, reducing fidgeting and helping to improve focus on the task in hand. ⭐️Lay out clear expectations of portion sizes for each food item during meal times. Clear expectations leaves no room for children to guess. Receive bonus points for using visuals for more concrete awareness. ⭐️Encourage each child to put at least one piece of an item they don’t want on their plate. It’s okay if they don’t want to eat it but putting it close to them can encourage them to try it. Next time they have that same food item encourage them to touch the food with their elbow. Then next time with their finger. Then next time with their lips. Exposure is key with picky eaters. It can take up to 15-20 times of exposure before a young child will try a new food. #WOYC24 #NAEYC #BehaviorSpecialist #EducatorMentor #EarlyChildhood #PickyEaters #BehaviorHappens
Cooking and eating together not only offers ways to incorporate healthy habits but also opportunities to support, math, literacy, and social and emotional development. Cooking up some plans for Tasty Tuesday? Share them on social media by using the hashtag #WOYC24
