Dive into this Gartner for IT research report to discover how CIOs and IT leaders are incorporating Generative AI adoption into their 2024 IT planning and budgeting.   Here are some insights: 1.    While IT organizations are experimenting with GenAI, 41% say their organization has only conducted initial research. Only 16% say GenAI has been integrated into some processes. 2.    Among these IT organizations who already adopted GenAI 56% say their current use cases include both internal workflow optimization and external/commercial use. 3.    Predictions towards 2024, 87% of all surveyed IT leaders anticipate their GenAI strategy will change, with 44% expecting minor strategic tweaks and 37% foreseeing significant strategic adjustments, leaving 10% saying their strategy will remain mostly unchanged. - "A recent McKinsey Global Survey reveals that employees are far ahead of their organizations in using gen AI,1 as companies have been slow to adopt in ways that could realize gen AI’s trillion-dollar opportunity. To harness employees’ enthusiasm and stay ahead, companies need a holistic approach to transforming how the whole organization works with gen AI; the technology alone won’t create value. This means applying gen AI in ways that enable the business strategy: by reinventing operating models and entire domains,2 by reimagining talent and skilling, and by reinforcing changes through robust governance and infrastructure." - "Technology adoption for its own sake has never created value, which is also true with gen AI. Whether technology is itself the core strategy (for example, developing gen-AI-based products) or supports other business strategies, its deployment should link to value creation opportunities and measurable outcomes" This still appears to be a ground up change. Employees get it, but it's hard to see strategically what tool will produce what effect, or what staffing change is required. IMHO The change seems to be in curiousity and a heap of listening and critical enquiry and clarity about what outcomes each enterprise/org is seeking. This involves all stakeholders, including employees, clients, and users, the environment and even the technology itself. Is this our Kodak moment when leaders looking digital cameras and thinking that things will never take off and their employees start buying smart phones? Is the noise about AI hype mostly from frustrated top management who can't find good use casse and are (rightfully, to my mind) concerned about data security and explainable quality? Is it lack of a cost effective single stable AI product or system to be implemented on top of outmoded legacy systems. A break in the needs to staff and the desires of management. Or something else? Thoughts?

Michael Eriksson, this is timely, well compiled.. there's so much knowledge gap, lack of governance/policies. AI is here to stay, arrived faster than we anticipated and is going to evolve rapidly. While corporate adoption will take time and be slow, there are "early adopters" in employees who will use AI based tools that might negatively impact company policies and people outcomes. We can't afford to ignore AI, rather, figure out a way to utilize its potential while implementing the necessary framework to ensure responsible and ethical use
