I recently attended a session on SGLT2 inhibitors and wanted to share some key points. SGLT2 inhibitors, or sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors, are a class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes. They work by blocking the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, which is responsible for reabsorbing glucose back into the bloodstream, leading to lower blood sugar levels which ultimately leads to improved glycemic control independently of insulin action. They also offer cardiovascular and renal benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart failure and stroke, and to decrease the risk of hospitalization for heart failure, and slowing the progression of diabetic kidney disease and to reduce the risk of kidney failure. #ASHP #SGLT2inhibitors

The correct answer is Metformin. Metformin is the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes because it effectively lowers blood sugar levels by reducing liver glucose production and increasing insulin sensitivity. It's safe, and affordable, and rarely causes hypoglycemia compared to other medications. #Type2Diabetes #DiabetesTreatment #Metformin #BloodSugarControl #InsulinSensitivity #DiabetesAwareness #biologyquiz #MedicalExamPrep #MedicalAspirations #medicalstudentlife #learnsciencefacts #secrets4exams

1️⃣ Which drug is the first drug of choice for Type 2 diabetes? Metformin is the first-line therapy for Type 2 diabetes due to its ability to reduce hepatic glucose production, improve insulin sensitivity, and offer cardiovascular protection with a low hypoglycemia risk. ❓ Did you know? The primary side effect of Metformin is vitamin B12 deficiency. Additionally, Metformin is commonly used off-label for the management of PCOS. #PMP #PharmacistMentorshipProgram #PMPPharmaQuizSeries

Do you know what CKD Anemia is? It's a condition where people with chronic #kidney disease (#CKD) have low levels of red blood cells or hemoglobin. This can cause symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, and heart problems. CKD #Anemia is caused by reduced production of a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO) by the kidneys, which stimulates the bone marrow to make red blood cells. CKD Anemia is treated with drugs called erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) and iron supplements, which help the body make more red blood cells. One of these erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) is Darbepoetin Alfa, a type of ESA that is similar to the natural EPO produced by the body. Darbepoetin Alfa is a safe and effective #treatment for CKD Anemia that can improve the quality of life of people with kidney disease. #Menagen #pharma #biosimilar #CKD #CKDanemia

Semaglutide is a potent GLP-1 receptor agonist, transforming type 2 diabetes care. With once-weekly dosing, it effectively manages blood sugar levels, lowers A1c, and often leads to weight loss. Mimicking the action of GLP-1, it enhances insulin production and slows digestion for optimal glucose regulation. Clinical trials support its efficacy and safety. Consult your healthcare provider to see if Semaglutide could be a valuable addition to your diabetes management plan. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ezMS7kVb #DiabetesAwareness #HealthJourney #semaglutide #obesity #weightloss #healthandwellness #weightlossmeds #weightlossmedications #wellness #semaglutideweightloss
