Our innovative case-finding tool hepatoSIGHT has played a pivotal role in advancing medical research in liver disease. Last year alone, researchers used hepatoSIGHT in several important studies, here are just 3: 1. Identifying Chronic Liver Disease in Deprived Areas: Our collaborators at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust used hepatoSIGHT to proactively reach out to individuals in deprived areas at a high risk of chronic liver disease. The study found that those in deprived areas displayed more indicators of fibrosis and decompensation, and crucially, were adequately represented in the existing data. This study demonstrates the impact that a tool like hepatoSIGHT could have on improving care for disadvantaged members of society. 2. Informing Hepatitis B Strategies in Deprived Areas: Configured to identify people likely to have Hepatitis B, hepatoSIGHT revealed a higher prevalence of Hep B in deprived areas. Challenges in engagement and follow-up in deprived areas were identified, underscoring the importance of improving investigation and referral pathways. The tool's application in this study demonstrates its use, not just in clinical interventions, but also in informing medical research aimed at eliminating Hepatitis B by 2030. 3. Uncovering Under-Investigated Liver Conditions: The hepatoSIGHT tool was employed to identify patients with persistently abnormal liver chemistry, revealing under-investigation of chronic liver diseases. The study exposed missed opportunities for treatment, with just 1 in 10 people with signs of liver issues receiving adequate follow-up. Our case-finding database rapidly identified thousands of individuals who might benefit from further investigation.
