Communications for non-profits | Co-founder & Comms Director | Upskilling teams to use Comms effectively
We weren’t born to be robots 🤖 Embracing neurodiversity is key to creating workplaces where creativity, problem-solving, innovation, pattern-spotting and all the other wonderful nuances can truly thrive. In this article 👇 I’m delving into the awesome advantages of dyslexic talent in the workforce. From thinking outside the box to bringing fresh solutions, dyslexic individuals bring something special to the table (and I’m not just saying that because I am one). But there’s still more to do to break down barriers and remove obstacles to career entry. At EnterTech, we're all about tapping into the unique talents of dyslexic and neurodiverse individuals to help them pursue different pathways into Tech. #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek has been mind-blowing so far - let's continue to contribute to the discussion, honour the diverse ways our minds work and advocate for better inclusion, understanding, and support. https://lnkd.in/eEFpPvHJ #Dyslexia #DigitalInclusion #NeurodiversityAtWork 📸: Female programmer working with two laptops

Oladiwura (Diwura) Oladepo The executive director of Tech4Dev sent a reassuring message to the Women Techsters Fellows Class of 2024, acknowledging the challenges they face midway through the program. Despite the weariness and various life struggles, the director expressed pride in our fellows' resilience, comparing us to world-renowned athletes who persevere in pursuit of their goals. The message emphasized the value of building strength and tenacity, encouraging us the fellows to embrace our uniqueness and continue daring to dream. She concluded with a quote by Steve Jobs, “Women breaking boundaries and daring to dream: “Here is to the Crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round peg in square holes, the ones who see things differently - they are not fond of the rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do” emphasizing the impact of those who think differently and change the world, and urged the fellows to finish strong, assuring us of the community's support at the finish line. Thank you, ma'am. This means a lot to me. I've been on the verge of giving up, facing numerous challenges, but your words provide assurance that someone believes I shouldn't quit. I truly felt the impact of Steve Jobs's words, and I will hold onto them. #wtfc24 #tech4dev #gratefulheart #onyinyealago

In recent months, I've been participating in the Technovation initiative (https://lnkd.in/dHP37Syr) by mentoring a team. Technovation aims to empower girls to become leaders and problem solvers by using technology to tackle significant society challenges. The objective for the various teams involved is to identify a problem that is meaningful to their community and seek a tech-based solution. A colleague invited me to participate by mentoring a group of girls aged between 9 and 10 for the pitch phase. While I've previously collaborated with various start-ups and university initiatives, primarily engaging with Generation Z and Y, this experience introduces me to the Alpha generation—the first to be entirely digital native. Witnessing such young individuals discussing user experience, coding, and showing concerns for societal issues is incredibly inspiring. I often hear people criticising the newer generations. Firstly, like all generations, they are navigating their way through a world undergoing unprecedented change, presenting new challenges daily. Secondly, I came across an idea in a podcast recently listen (https://lnkd.in/gBwQEwTw) where Joaquim Campa suggested that instead of blaming the new generations, we should take responsibility, as they are the product of our generation, and it made me think he is totally right. Working with younger generations has always been inspiring for me. It allows me to grasp a fresh perspective on the world, challenging me to reconsider my own viewpoints. Participating in the Technovation initiative has provided me with the opportunity to engage with the youngest generation, and it's been truly inspiring. It's not that I'm helping them; rather, they are helping me better comprehend the world that lies ahead, and I'm appreciating what I see. I encourage you to explore more about the Technovation initiative and, if possible, to participate.

🙌 In a recent interview with Town Manager, Gilbert Davidson, we dove deep into how we're transforming community feedback processes to ensure every voice in Town of Prescott Valley, Arizona is heard and valued. Gilbert emphasized the importance of engaging with residents from all walks of life - from the enthusiastic youth to our cherished seniors, highlighting the power of dialogue in shaping a vibrant community. 🔍 Aha Moment: When asked about enhancing initiatives for multilingual communities, Gilbert shared our dynamic partnership with the local Hispanic community, showcasing annual events and targeted programs that foster meaningful interactions and inclusivity. This approach not only celebrates our diverse population but also paves the way for actionable strategies to address community needs. But here's where it gets even more interesting! Our approach to integrating the younger generation's insights through collaboration with high school student council leaders is nothing short of inspiring. These young minds are now pivotal in influencing the future of our recreational spaces, ensuring that their ideas contribute to long-lasting benefits for the entire community. 🚀 Why This Matters: At Citibot, we believe in the power of accessible, AI-powered chat solutions to bridge the gap between governments and residents. Our mission is to build trust and improve communication, making it easier for everyone to have their say and contribute to the community's growth. 💡 "How can we, as a community, continue to foster inclusivity and ensure every voice is heard?" Let's take inspiration from Prescott Valley's commitment to open dialogue and collaborative problem-solving. Join us in celebrating their strides towards a more inclusive and engaged community.
