We were honored to host Gen. Sir Roly Walker, Chief of the General Staff of the British Army 🇬🇧, at our HQ in Mountain View, CA. During the visit, we discussed how a software-defined fleet can enable the General’s vision of tripling the Army’s combat power by the end of the decade. As a dual-use company, Applied Intuition Defense is committed to helping AUKUS partners strengthen their security in the face of rising threats. Thank you to Gen. Walker and his team for visiting our HQ! #defense #army #software #nationalsecurity

“By, with and through” is the mission of the Green Berets. Our Special Forces teams are small in numbers, but great in impact because of their ability to partner with indigenous forces, train them to be effective, equip them with resources, then fight a common enemy alongside them. America’s Green Berets and their Syrian counterparts defeated ISIS together. Major General Gil Ferguson, Commanding General of 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) - US Army, explains how that combined force was so effective. MG Ferguson joined me for a conversation on the culture of the Regiment, how the Special Forces Groups are preparing for regional conflicts with unknown enemies, at unknown times; and just how Green Berets are solidifying themselves as the go-to option in the deep sensor fight against our peer adversaries. He also explains the SOF-Space-Cyber Triad, where he sees Special Forces in a decade, and as our units evolve, what needs to stay the same. Take a listen, watch, or read our conversation with America’s top Green Beret, then head over to our YouTube channel to watch General Ferguson share the lineage of America’s first Special Forces in the Jedburgh Media Channel’s first documentary, Unknown Heroes, Behind Enemy Lines at D-Day, the story of Operation Jedburgh. For those of us who are interested in comparatives associated with today's geopolitical vulnerabilities, this post is content rich and insightful. Thanks Ryan Pallas.
#ForceDesignFriday 1993, the Bottom Up Review. Secretary of Defense Les Aspin initiated a holistic review of the force structure and requirements for the Department of Defense. The report looked at the 2 MRC construct and determined where US forces were then, and where they needed to be in the future given threat, budgetary resources, and assumptions. For those looking to analyze force design over time, the figure below forecasted the forces required in 1999. How do the 1999 forces compare to the forces of today? Competition, crisis, conflict. That’s where Special Operations Forces operate. Their primary mission? Influence and change behavior. A mission that requires a variety of skills. From underneath Utah Beach in Normandy, France, the Commanding General of United States Army Special Operations Command LTG Jonathan Braga joined me to discuss the state of Army Special Operations yesterday, today and tomorrow. LTG Braga unpacked the significance of World War II on international norms still in play today, shared his vision for Army Special Operations, his focus on threat-informed decision-making, and how Special Operations has evolved; but more importantly where it needs to go and why it’s not there yet. He also explains how Special Operations are preparing for conflict with nation-states while also ensuring terrorist organizations have no sanctuary across the globe; including the cyber and space fight deep behind enemy lines. Check out our conversation from underneath Utah Beach, then head over to our YouTube channel or your favorite podcast platform to catch all our coverage from the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. America’s next fight will require forces capable of operating in the extended deep; the denied area of an adversary that only a highly specialized force can penetrate. These are Green Beret Problems. “The amateurs discuss tactics: the professionals discuss logistics.” — Napoleon Bonaparte Sustaining a deployed force executing combat operations is a challenge. Geographical distance further compounds this challenge, especially when the theater of operations is half a world away. Logarithmically complicating this challenge is engaging a near peer adversary with global reach who enjoys advantages in time, distance, and magazine depth in enduring Large-Scale Combat Operations (#LSCO). In today’s post, #ArmyMadSci continues its exploration of the #OperationalEnvironment on behalf of the Army, addressing what GEN Frederick M. Franks (USA-Ret.), former Commanding General, TRADOC, and VII Corps Commander during Operation Desert Storm, called “… the hard part of fighting a war.” Check out what we’re learning about #ContestedLogistics from the on-going war in Ukraine and the associated ramifications for a potential conflict with China in the Indo-Pacific Region at: https://lnkd.in/eyWagN8j #TRADOC #ArmyModernization #AWC #SCOE #KnowYourEnemy

The British are coming! The mighty 3rd BCT from 1AD (BULLDOGS) are getting ready for the Box and have the excellent Queens Dragoon Guards embedded as their Recce! With 1200 sq miles of space to operate in, the recce will face its most significant challenge to date. Interoperability is often discussed, but here at the NTC, it is tested, shaped and made fit for combat. The forces are deploying against the Black Horse, the GOAT of desert operations! The US and UK forces will stress test doctrine, tactics and every facet of the interoperability conundrum when facing large-scale operations! It’s only here at the NTC that one of the oldest military relationships on the planet can be proved more potent than ever and, most importantly, ready to fight and win! #Britisharmy #army #fight #win #tactics #interoperability #multidomain

I recently submitted an article to the Royal Canadian Military Institute that examines the extent to which modern military commanders successfully balance intelligence and intuition, focusing on two case studies: Operation Desert Storm (1990-1991) and Operation Neptune Spear (2011). It was one I had previously worked on for school, and thought it was timely perhaps in the ongoing discussion regarding balancing intuition and intelligence. As outlined by Daniel Derek Eustace, PhD, Desert Storm, characterized by the Coalition’s swift and decisive action in Iraq, provided a broader context for understanding the newfound role of intelligence in large-scale conventional warfare. In contrast, Neptune Spear, the mission to eliminate Osama bin Laden, exemplifies the intricate coordination and momentous decision-making in contemporary counterinsurgency operations when faced with situations intelligence ultimately cannot inform. I thought it interesting in this case to compare the two. #militaryintelligence #defencepolicy #missioncommand
