🧅 Have you ever thought about the human body like an onion with layers? 🤔 The way this video describes it really opened my eyes. Each layer reveals a different view of the intricate human body. It made me question everything I do in my medical rotations and interactions with patients. Are you looking to get into the health care industry? 𝑳𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒅 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. Shown are some of the attending companies in next week’s J.P. Morgan Healthcare conference. A closed conference, invitation only. The topic - health care innovation. When I assess these identified companies, I do not see the “boots on the ground” across our fragmented system. In other words, the front-like folks making things happen to keep folks from visiting a hospital. From a nurse connecting remotely with patients to address daily needs. To a mobile physician rapidly responding to emergent needs and preventing a trip to the ER. To a nurse collaborating in real-time with a physician to address elevated blood pressures, out-of-range sugars, shortness of breath to prevent another trip to the ER. I am simply scratching the surface with these examples. There is so much more that is delivered by these “boots on the ground.” I wonder if any of these big boys will come close to discussing the challenges and opportunities in the health care service delivery system. It is an area ripe for innovation. I don’t sense that this is a topic of discussion next week. I say “don’t sense” because even the agenda for this conference is confidential and not open to public viewing. Why? #healthcare #physician #doctor #nursing #caremanager

RN Founder. CEO of Care. Advocate. Innovator. Entrepreneur. Advisor. Expert. Speaker. Educator. Mentor.
As a Nurse Care Manager and Patient Advocate, I know that collaboration is a necessity and who you partner with can literally make or break a case (or if we even want to work on it)! Care Managers, nurses, families, patients, advocates, basically everyone who deals with healthcare (and that's all of us) needs to know about Jean Ross, RN and her mastermind creation of Primary Record. It's the future of healthcare and the game changer we've all been wishing for. It's how patients and families can have access to their own medical records anytime, anywhere. #patientadvocate #nursesonlinkedin #nursecasemanagers #innovativetechnology #gamechanger #collaborationinprogress #patientsafety #aginglifecare
Collaboration continues to be the focus for me in 2024. This week I had the opportunity to meet up with Jean Ross, RN and her husband Chris, to learn more about their innovative use of technology. This technology will be making a huge difference in healthcare navigation and coordination for everyone in the future. Think about this….. 💡What if there was a way to connect all those portals in one place? 💡What if there was a place where all that information was then organized and categorized and accessible? 💡What if families had a place together where each person’s medical information could be stored, accessed and updated continuously? For me as a nurse, case manager and Patient Advocate, I see this as a game changer!!! No more confusion when multiple medications and treatments prescribed by multiple physicians, who do not communicate with one another. No more countless hours gathering medical records to review and organize and copy along with summaries and timelines to provide to multiple physicians caring for one patient. This leads to improvement in safety, quality of care and outcomes! We all are patients! We all deserve quality care! I am proud to say I have partnered to work with Jean Ross, RN and Primary Record to provide input and recommendations as to how this tool can be of use to those of us in the Nursing, Case Management and Patient Advocacy world! Want to know the secret to providing exceptional patient care? 🔒💡 It all starts with building strong, meaningful bonds with your patients! As a future NP, you have to foster trust if you want to provide good, compassionate care. But why is it so important? Building trust and strong bonds with your patients is crucial because it: 💬 Encourages open communication, allowing patients to share their concerns and fears more freely. 👥 Improves patient compliance and adherence to treatment plans, leading to better health outcomes. 🙏 Increases patient satisfaction and loyalty, as they feel valued and cared for by their healthcare provider. 🧘♀️ Reduces patient anxiety and stress, creating a more positive healthcare experience. The next question is: how can you cultivate these powerful connections? Here are our top tips: 👂 Active Listening: Give your patients your undivided attention and listen to their concerns with empathy. 💬 Clear Communication: Explain diagnoses, treatments, and procedures in plain language, ensuring your patients understand and feel heard. ❓ Open-Ended Questions: Use open-ended questions to encourage patients to share their thoughts and feelings. This can help identify their concerns and preferences. 🤲 Collaborative Decision-Making: Involve your patients in their treatment plans, empowering them to take an active role in their healthcare journey. Implementing these strategies will enhance the quality of care you provide and build trust and credibility with your patients. Ready to put these tips into practice and become the compassionate, skilled NP patients so desperately need? Those who work in healthcare study and train for years to develop the knowledge, expertise and resulting confidence to make decisions that are in the best interests of their patients. Yet as much as training and knowledge are important in guiding decisions, these alone will not result in excellent care that meets each patient's goals and that aligns with their values. That’s the view of Peter Pronovost MD, PhD, FCCM, UH’s Chief Quality and Clinical Transformation Officer and Veale Distinguished Chair in Leadership and Clinical Transformation. Families, too, he says, have many important things to teach caregivers — consider it their experiential wisdom — especially important in patients with chronic or complex conditions. In fact, Dr. Pronovost argues, the ability to honor this wisdom is essential for safe, effective care. At UH, we’re training all our physicians and staff to be more attuned to important moments with families and to more fully respect the experiential wisdom expressed by the patient's family and loved ones — and to also listen more closely to nurses' and all caregivers' voices. 📚 Enhancing Care for Critically Ill Patients: Prone Positioning Course at AKU 🌟 I am thrilled to share that I have recently completed the "Prone Positioning in Critically Ill Patients" course from Aga Khan University (AKU). This specialized training has been instrumental in broadening my understanding and skills in managing critically ill patients, particularly those with severe respiratory conditions. 🔍 Key Takeaways: Evidence-Based Practice: The course emphasized the latest evidence and guidelines supporting prone positioning to improve oxygenation and outcomes in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Technical Proficiency: Hands-on training sessions were invaluable in mastering the safe and effective implementation of prone positioning, including patient preparation, maneuver techniques, and monitoring. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: I gained insights into the importance of teamwork among healthcare professionals—nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians—to ensure the best outcomes for patients undergoing prone positioning. Patient Safety and Comfort: The course highlighted strategies to mitigate potential complications such as pressure ulcers and dislodgement of tubes and lines, ensuring patient safety and comfort during the procedure. This course has not only enhanced my clinical skills but also reinforced my commitment to providing high-quality care to our most vulnerable patients. I am eager to apply these skills in my practice and contribute to improved patient outcomes. A huge thank you to the instructors and fellow participants at AKU for an enriching and collaborative learning experience. If you're involved in critical care and haven't explored this course yet, I highly recommend it! #CriticalCare #PronePositioning #Healthcare #ContinuousLearning #AKU #PatientCare #MedicalEducation
