A clean, well-maintained aquarium will help your fish stay healthy and prevent illness.  To clean your aquarium, follow these steps:  Turn off your filter: To prevent cloudy water, turn off your filter before cleaning your aquarium.  Remove debris: Use a net to remove debris, food, leaves, and other items from your aquarium.   Clean the sides and bottom of your aquarium: Use a soft brush or sponge to clean the sides and bottom of your aquarium, removing any algae or other build-up.  Clean your decorations: Decorations in your aquarium should also be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.  Change the water: The water in your aquarium should be changed regularly, about 10-20% of the total water volume each week.
