Qatar has a dedicated First lounge in Doha and a few aircraft with a First cabin, so it makes sense that they will address the issue sooner rather than later. The measure of international First has been a private flat bed "suite," with some sort of concierge and extensive catering, but the suite is now firmly in Business territory. I'd love to see the customer data and be a fly on the wall during discussions around this product and how they decide to differentiate it from their Q Suite business class - is it about radically more space? More personalization? Even more privacy, or something more social? Augmented services on the ground? Or something else? Will be interesting to see what they come up with and whether others follow. #productinnovation #travel #airlines #research #customerexperience #customerinsights #humancentereddesign

Interesting to see such big changes happening in the African aviation sector. Enhancing their code-sharing agreement, and even aligning their loyalty programs (Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Airlink Skybucks). But hereโs the real question: What does this mean for Africaโs aviation scene? ๐ค 1. How will this partnership impact air travel, could we see more direct flights and improved travel options? 2. What does this mean for consumers, will this lead to more competitive pricing or better service? 3. How might this investment influence the development of new routes and destinations within Africa? Exciting times ahead. Letโs see where this takes us! #Airlink #QatarAirways
#QatarAirways acquires a 25% stake in Southern Africaโs premier regional carrier, Airlink. The Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, and Airlink Chief Executive Officer, Rodger Foster, sealed the deal in Doha today. This new agreement is a significant progression of the existing codeshare partnership between the two airlines and is a further demonstration of Qatar Airwaysโ commitment to Africa. Which country is Gulf dad? I asked my dad during our first trip to Muscat when I was in the 9th grade. My naive curiosity piqued when I saw the striking livery on the tarmac. With the MRO middle east conference in full swing, it's a good time to think back on the journey of middle east aviation. And it all starts with Gulf Air . The seed that has led to the growth of world renowned airlines and an eco system that is the envy of the world. This picture turns back the pages of history. The formation of Gulf Air in 1974 is a wonderful story of partnership between countries and then how it eventually branched out to the very famous airlines we know today. (Check out the article in comments) Another lesser known fact, this was also the genesis of the entire MRO industry with the formation of Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Company (GAMCO) unit in Abu Dhabi in 1987 This later on went on to become ADAT and now Etihad Engineering. A leading player in this space for many years now. While Gulf Air today is based out of Bahrain, it's DNA and lineage will always be part of many leading airlines in the region today. The legacy continues amongst people too. I have heard several collagues talk very fondly of their early days in Gulf Air and GAMCO, almost like folklore. It also serves as a great reminder to us. That small beginnings can lead to big outcomes. But along the way risks have to be taken coupled with a bold vision, else younger and faster competitors will outgrow you. #aviation #history #gulfair #mromiddleeast Pic credit : Unknown.
