🇸🇩 Since the conflict broke out on April 15, 2024, #Sudan has been thrust into a humanitarian disaster of immense scale, exacting a heavy toll on civilians. Here is what we need to know: 🔴 Affected Population: Nearly half the country, 24.7 million people—including 14 million children—need aid and protection. 🔴 Displacement: 5.8 million have been displaced, with children accounting for half; 69% of internally displaced are women. 🔴 Refugee Dynamics: In Chad, 90% are women and girls. In Egypt, most new refugee households are female-headed. 🔴 Broader Impact: The conflict drives hunger, disease, and further displacement, threatening the nation's stability. 🔴 Urgent Call: It's time for international intervention to silence the guns and support Sudan's path to recovery. We don't want another failed state in the middle of Africa. #sudancrisis #sahel #humanitarian

As new emergencies occur, some crises can slide out of the headlines ⚠ But this does not mean children and families are no longer in need. It is predicted that nearly 300 million people will require urgent humanitarian support in 2024. Most of these people are in underreported crises like in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan or Afghanistan. However, Save the Children remains there, after the cameras have left, working to provide the essentials families need to survive❤️ Here are 8 humanitarian crises we mustn't forget about👉 https://lnkd.in/e8fZ6qEC 🔁 Share with your network to give visibility to these crises and help raise awareness. #DRC #sudan #afghanistan

HALF OF THE POPULATION. Half of the population of Gaza — over one million people — will be subject to famine between now and July unless Israel allows more food to enter. The world rightly feared genocide via bombing. But we are months beyond the moment a ceasefire was the most promising way to save the most civilian lives. The forced starvation must stop. #UNRWA and other humanitarian aid staff must be allowed to enter #Gaza. And staff must be able to work without risk of being kidnapped, tortured, or killed. Is this a pipe dream….? I don’t know—but I do know that we owe it to everyone in Gaza to keep organizing and speaking up until the course is altered and the nightmare ends. “The international community should hang its head in shame for failing to stop it. We know that once a famine is declared, it is way too late.” — Martin Griffiths, UN relief coordinator Please call and write your reps to demand an immediate ceasefire and entry of aid: https://lnkd.in/gDD5cdFn Guardian link: https://lnkd.in/d-pN-Tfk NYT link: https://lnkd.in/dEDDeDQu International Court of Justice (ICJ) #warcrimes #warcrimesingaza #ceasefireingazanow 🇵🇸 #gazagenocide 💔 #savegazachildren 🕊️ #savegazacivilians 🙏

In recent months, the situation in Sudan has been of deep concern. Drawing on data from UNHCR, I've analyzed the plight of Sudanese refugees who have sought safety in Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Central African Republic (CAR), and South Sudan from April to December 12, 2023. Shockingly, in just nine months, over a million people have been uprooted from their homes. This staggering number is not just a statistic; it represents individual lives—each person with a story, with dreams that have been deferred or destroyed by conflict. The fundamental human right to live in peace, without the fear of being forced to flee one's home, is being denied. Can we imagine what it's like to go to sleep in peace and wake up to war? To face the unspeakable choice between death and displacement? For women and children, the threat looms even larger with the risk of gender-based violence. I call upon us not just to be observers but advocates for peace and protectors of human rights. Let us raise awareness and support measures to ensure that no one is forced to leave their home due to war. Please, let's keep Sudan in our thoughts and actions. May peace prevail, and may those displaced find safety and a chance to rebuild their lives. 🙏 #sudancrisis #humanrights #refugees #sudan

"The allegations of involvement of several UNRWA staff in the heinous attacks on Israel on 7 October are horrifying. As the Secretary-General has said, any UN employee involved in acts of terror will be held accountable. However, we must not prevent an entire organization from delivering on its mandate to serve people in desperate need. The harrowing events that have been snowballing in Gaza since 7 October have left hundreds of thousands of people homeless and on the brink of famine. UNRWA, as the largest humanitarian organisation in Gaza, has been providing food, shelter and protection, even as its own staff members were being displaced and killed. Decisions by various Member States to pause funds from UNRWA will have catastrophic consequences for the people of Gaza. No other entity has the capacity to deliver the scale and breadth of assistance that 2.2 million people in Gaza urgently need. We appeal for these decisions to be reconsidered. UNRWA has announced a full, independent review of the organization, and the UN’s Office of Internal Oversight Services has been activated. Withdrawing funds from UNRWA is perilous and would result in the collapse of the humanitarian system in Gaza, with far-reaching humanitarian and human rights consequences in the occupied Palestinian territory and across the region. The world cannot abandon the people of Gaza." Statement by Principals of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee.
