We welcome the pause in fighting to allow for the polio vaccination campaign to take place, but 3 days won't be enough to protect the children of #Gaza. Our clinic in Deir Al Balah is one of the polio vaccinations sites in Gaza. 1,825 children were vaccinated on day 1 and we aim to help provide vaccinations to at least 3,000 children during the campaign. But over 600,000 remain at risk of paralysis and death⚠ A definitive ceasefire is vital to protect children's lives. Sign the petition today ➡ https://lnkd.in/e4k26Pqn

The rapid spread of the mpox virus in the DRC – it has about 90% of all reported cases globally - is putting a strain on an already fragile health system⚠️ Child mpox cases surge 75-fold in worst hit province as schools restart this week. With delivery of vaccines to DRC and neighbouring countries delayed, it is critical that the international community steps up funding so that schools can ensure they have adequate clean water, hygiene and sanitation measures for children in the next few weeks. Our health workers are providing medical care and racing against time to curb the spread of this deadly virus. Jemima Milolo, a Nurse Supervisor, reports further from Goma, #DRC👇 Share to raise awareness⚠️ #mpox

As many children head back to school over the coming weeks, millions still continue to be robbed of their #education by conflict and emergencies. For example, nearly 15 million refugee children have had their learning interrupted after being forced to flee their homes. We call on all governments, donors and organisations to recognise education in emergencies services as lifesaving and ensure its embedded within the first phases of every crisis response. Countless lives will be lost if it's not. In this new blog, our experts including Janti Soeripto, and Gabriella Waaijman explain the importance of education in emergencies. The situation in Haiti right now is catastrophic for children. For the last 6 months, gang violence has led to neighbourhoods being burned down, children being killed, recruited into armed groups and whole families being displaced. ⚠️ For many each day is a fight for survival. There is very little water, food or safe places to seek refuge, even for our own staff. ❤️ We're working with local partners and providing support to families such as cash assistance. Read the testimony from Anderson, one of our humanitarian workers in Haiti who has been directly impacted by the escalating violence👉 https://lnkd.in/eS-zBPyH Save the Children Global Media Manager Smantha Halyk provides an update on the situation in #Haiti and our response on the ground⬇️

Increasing attacks by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are threatening even more Palestinian children's lives. At least 26 children have been killed in airstrikes alone in the West Bank since October. Children must be protected. #WestBank

"It's not what it used to be. I dream that the war will end so that we can go to school and learn", Anton*, 11, from Mykolaiv. After over 2 years of war, about two-thirds of children in the frontline regions of #Ukraine can still not attend school in person due to the danger of air strikes and shelling. At least 3,000 educational institutions have been damaged and more than 300 destroyed during the war, comprising more than 10% of Ukraine’s schools. Read our new report that reveals the dramatic impact the war has had on education in Ukraine ⬇

Children’s mental health in #Gaza is being pushed beyond breaking point. The harm inflicted on children after 10 months of siege, relentless bombardment and lack of basics like food and water, is unimaginable💔 We need a #CeasefireNow, and safe humanitarian access to reach and assist children in need. All children deserve to grow up feeling safe. #StopTheWarOnChildren #mentalheath

Gaza has recorded its first polio case in 25 years ⚠ Polio is a virus that can cause irreversible paralysis in a matter of hours. It is particularly dangerous in Gaza, where high malnutrition rates and toxic stress levels make children more vulnerable to infection. 💔 But with the destruction of the healthcare system and little to no wash and sanitation facilities, people in Gaza are not capable to respond to this outbreak, posing a huge risk for children. 🤝 We have joined forced with 20 agencies and 20 medical professionals to call for an immediate and definitive ceasefire to allow life-saving aid into #Gaza, including polio vaccines to be administered to 640,000 children under 10. ❌ Without immediate action, an entire generation is at risk of infection and hundreds of children face paralysis by a highly communicable disease that can be prevented with a simple vaccine.
