There is a specific hole at a specific golf course where I got the call that I landed my dream job in Tech. 3 years later on a company day off, I’d get news on that same exact hole that my role at another company was being eliminated. Highs and lows. I don’t think it was a coincidence, nor do I believe in coincidences at all. I do believe there is significance in physical locations where we experience life altering experiences. I also believe that we should continue to revisit and frequent those locations - there’s something there for us. Can I make sense of or explain why the 3rd Hole at Costa Mesa Country Club happens to be marked by these two meaningful events in my career? I cannot. But I can tell you that every time I round the corner and head to the tee box, my eyes and ears are surely perked. Lesson here: Don’t forget those places where life took a turn. Often what looks like a setback can be a setup for more than you could dream up on your own. PS - this is not a pic from Costa Mesa. This is a shot out of the lava in Hawaii.

Last night at my son's state fair, I saw the magic of teamwork in action! 🌟 The kids absolutely rocked it, showing up as a united team. They spoke confidently in front of a whole gym of people (!!), cheered each other on, and nailed their presentations. It reminded me of 3 key areas for building a high-performing team: 1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: When we work together and support one another, we can achieve incredible things. 2. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰: Believing in yourself and each other makes tackling new challenges exciting and rewarding. 3. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: Having a leader who guides, believes in, and pushes you is essential. And the fun celebration afterward, with food from each state, was a fantastic bonus! 🎉 Looking for your team to shine like this and you're not sure how? If you saw my recent gratitude post of our family’s shoes - you know we were able to take an amazing trip across portions of Europe. The trip was really about introducing Europe and the broader international world to our boys. My mindset was… successful family trip = boys experiencing the world and taking it all in (one gelato at a time, but that’s for another post 🍨). During our various tours, I was intrigued by… the floor? Yep. I took several photos of amazing places and really scrutinized the floor. I could see signs of ‘recycling’/repurposing. I could see imagery that started at the foundational level and moved up to the walls and often ceilings. Floors often get overlooked. But, by being curious about the several century old floors - I gained a greater appreciation of the whole. Where might your curious eye take you?
