NEW (Nonprofit Enterprise at Work) is doing great things in SE Michigan! Applications for the 2024-25 cohort of "Champions for Change" are now open. In Champions for Change, leaders from across the social sector in SE Michigan can grow in their abilities to lead from their values. Champions will uncover the implicit and explicit ways race has impacted their lived-experiences. They'll practice dialogue across diverse aspects of identity. And they'll conspire with others to spur change towards racial co-liberation.

Champions meet every two to three weeks in seven-hour sessions. Most sessions will take place in-person in Washtenaw County, however the program is open to leaders from across SE Michigan. Each session emphasizes building relationships, sharing stories, practicing deep listening, and skill-building. (We also make time to play and share meals together!)." At MSDC, we don't just teach our people how to weed the garden (i.e., handle the bad stuff). We also teach them how to grow their garden (i.e., celebrate the good stuff). So, after a session of weeding the courtyard the other day, our Jobs Club folks learned about plants from the wonderful Martha from Flowers on Redwood. As the year draws to a close, and we reflect on the challenges and triumphs of the past twelve months, it's crucial to remember the ongoing fight for racial justice. Though progress has been made, systemic inequities and injustices still cast a long shadow over our society. Communities of color continue to face discrimination, prejudice, and unequal opportunities. Request for Action - AmeriCorps Decreasing Polarization by Increasing Harmony In Our Communities Across America Your help please for the good of the common good. Our youth and young adults need to learn the importance and meaning of the word harmony outside of the music genre. In response to AmeriCorps CEO's statement that his third objective is "decreasing polarization" I have contacted the AmeriCorps Building Bridges Days of Service Director, asking if AmeriCorps would you be willing to promote, encourage, and foster the Harmony In Our Communities Across America concept. Decreasing Polarization - In CEO Michael Smith's AmeriCorps webinar of 01/11/2022 he pointed out that of his three major objective/focal points. The third being: #3. Decreasing Polarization Which to us means: #3 Increasing Harmonization (The action or process of making an attitude consistent and compatible.) This nation was founded by Harmonious Communities. An increase in an attitude of harmony must come before there can be a decrease in polarization and an increase in unity. We need to teach our children the meaning and importance of harmony outside the music room. A "Harmony In Our Communities Across America" AmeriCorps program in your state would contribute to changing attitudes and decreasing polarization in our nation?   We are seeking volunteers willing to promote, encourage and foster Harmony In Our Communities Across America, send us a message if you are willing to help.

We hope environmental organizations will continue to embrace increasing the use of biofuels as one of their goals to reduce the carbon content and toxic emissions from every gallon of gasoline and diesel in every vehicle every day. The path to a healthier environment and environmental justice has to be paved with cleaner fuels and powered by educated consumers. While new markets and technologies for electric vehicles continue to develop, there are no good reasons not to use biofuels to replace the benzene and benzene-laced aromatics in gasoline and diesel fuel. #gasolinegate
