John van Boxmeer Delivers Chair’s Report at the CBIA’s 13th AGM At the CBIA Canadian Bond Investors' Association's 13th Annual General Meeting, CBIA Chair John van Boxmeer reflected on highlights of the past year, including: -         Growing membership. 38 new individuals joined in the past year, bringing CBIA’s  membership to over 500. -         CBIA now has 46 Institutional member firms, representing over $2.78 trillion in fixed income assets under management. Most of the major fixed income institutional managers in Canada are members. There are also seven Affiliate Member companies. -         CBIA’s annual conference and webinars set records for attendance. -         Advocacy efforts, including CMBs, are ongoing. -         Feedback from the first Member Survey in seven years is influencing projects and future webinars and conference sessions planned by the association’s eight committees, ranging from ESG to market structure. Wrote with Marc Meyers a piece about how Part II UCIs can be operated with and without ELTIF label in the newest LPEA - Luxembourg Private Equity & Venture Capital Association magazine.   We hold that in an environment where evergreen funds are poised to become ever more popular, the umbrella Part II UCI provides (with or without such a label) the ideal platform under which various (semi) open-ended strategies marketed to private wealth investors, could be combined with either closed-ended or semi-open ended ELTIFs that can be marketed to either professional, private wealth or (real) retail investors.   The solid success of Part II UCIs will only be further sustained by regulatory updates expected during 2024, including clarifications as to the applicable investment restrictions (considering that the CSSF Circulars 91/75 and 02/80 are in practice not strictly applied as such anymore) and a, potentially, faster regulatory approval process.
