Today is #Educationday! Architects play a significant role in achieving a high-quality built environment and thereby contribute to the public interest and the common good. Therefore, the #skills and #competences of architects and other building professionals lie naturally at the heart of the #NewEuropeanBauhaus – a beautiful, sustainable and inclusive built environment can only be the result of the work of highly skilled professionals. 🪻 Advancing the highest standards in #architectural #education A joint Statement published on the occasion of the Conference organised by the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE)’ and the European Association for Architectural Education on 20 April 2023 in Brussel recalls the commitments of ACE and EAAE to promote the highest standards in architectural education; continuing professional development; research and the dissemination of the architectural culture. 🪻 ACE and EAAE actively promote the clear exposition of architectural education and practice standards as they apply in the EU to ensure that highly skilled EU architects have appropriate access to international markets, and that migrant architects coming to the EU meet the same standards required of EU qualified professionals. 🪻 Read the ACE X EAAE Statement: Upskilling to deliver high-quality architecture for a beautiful, sustainable and inclusive environment: https://lnkd.in/etW8htGn Pic credits : School in Sillamäe, Estonia Lauder Architects Photo by Tõnu Tunnel #architecture #europe #quality #education

"Reuse Relationships" Roundtable at the Architectural Association. Friday 4 October, 3-5pm. Organised by Aude-Line Duliere and featuring Assemble, David Chipperfield Architects, 6a, Stanton Williams, Paye Stonework & Restoration Ltd, BCA Matériaux Anciens / BCA Antique Matérials. As part of Circular Economy Week London 2024, this event is triggered by two developments. Firstly, the fact that more and more real-world architectural projects are involving material reuse, and secondly, the fact that a new type of relationship is being forged: between architects and… let’s call them “material facilitators”. In other words, the experts – who have been around long before circularity became a thing – who can actually find and supply used materials and help incorporate them in new contexts...

I’m very excited to announce that TRACE lab research (co-authors below) has won the ACSA TAD Research Contribution Award for our paper ‘Data Visualization for a Circular Economy: Designing a Web Application for Sustainable Housing’. This award recognizes outstanding peer-reviewed research published in the Technology | Architecture + Design Journal. Our paper outlines our new web application, ‘Data Homebase’, which aims to foster a circular economy in the housing sector to tackle Canada’s housing supply challenge while mitigating the environmental impacts of building. We develop ‘Housing Passports’ - which are ‘nutrition labels’ for housing towards accelerating the digitalization of buildings. This helps municipalities and policymakers to understand if urban mining can occur at the city level and allows us to see housing as ‘banks’ of material resources waiting to be tapped. Facilitating repair and reuse as an alternative to demolition and new construction, rapidly increases the speed in which housing supply challenges can be addressed. What to Read This #Summer 📚 'High-quality Architecture and Built Environment: a Political Goal'. On the occasion of a workshop organised as part of the 2023 UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023, the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE) and the Region I of the International Union of Architects (UIA - International Union of Architects Region I) released a joint publication entitled 'High-quality Architecture and Built Environment: a Political Goal'. This publication puts the spotlight on recent policy initiatives, at EU and national levels, that support a high-quality architecture and built environment, as well as Baukultur. High-quality #Baukultur is about society’s responsible handling of its built environment and its architecture. It requires and implies an increased participation of society in care for, and development of, the built environment, but also quality-based processes throughout the life-cycle of projects. Baukultur is a holistic approach, which cares for and seeks to achieve a sustainable society, with quality of life and collective well-being for all. We are happy to announce the newest addition to the editorial team of the Design Research in Architecture series, Professor Andong Lu. Currently Professor in Architecture and Urbanism at Nanjing University, China, he joins Professor Murray Fraser from UCL's renowned Bartlett school of Architecture. Featuring work from Early Career Researchers and leading architect-scholars in practice and academia, books in the open access Design Research in Architecture series vary widely in tone and structure, covering aspects such as design method, visual representation, reasoned critique, social processes and strategies for action. The series is deliberately inclusive to encourage a vibrant, novel approach, and is openly international. Each book combines serious historical or theoretical research with creative propositions expressed through drawings, models or texts; indeed, it is the symbiotic interplay between these components that forms the basis for design research in architecture. It is currently a fertile time for design research and this book series acts as the heart of these investigations. Find out more about the series at https://ow.ly/FvXE50STo3K
