Why now? I've always believed that our stories have power, especially when it comes to mental health. Mine has been far from easy, but it's led me to a place of greater understanding and acceptance. I'm here to share my experiences – the messy, the beautiful, and everything in between – in the hopes of helping others feel less alone. What can you expect? This is a free subscription, so come on in and make yourself at home. My Story, Unfiltered Recently, my mental health journey took an unexpected detour. A hospitalization led to a new diagnosis – Complex PTSD, adding another layer to my existing conditions. It was a lot to take in, but it also brought clarity. I've learned that the road to recovery is rarely straightforward. Not all treatment programs are created equal, and finding the right therapist can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. But I've been lucky. A compassionate therapist I met during my last hospital stay reignited a spark of hope within me. It was a turning point, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there's always light to be found. This newfound hope has given me a renewed sense of purpose. I'm determined to become a peer support counselor for those who are also navigating the complexities of Complex PTSD. It's a path that calls to me, and I'm ready to answer. Sharing my story is a way for me to connect with others who might be struggling. It's a way to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and to show that it's okay to not be okay. I'm not perfect, and my journey is far from over. But I'm here, I'm real, and I'm ready to embrace all that life has to offer. Thank you for joining me on this adventure. Training our active duty, veteran and first responder communities in posttraumatic growth to thrive in the aftermath of trauma is the work Boulder Crest Foundation does every day. But the truth is, posttraumatic growth-PTG-is a concept that people in every community should know about. Struggle is part of the human experience. Yesterday, the #ChooseGrowth initiative was launched in league with a number of amazing partners. Yesterday, in the middle of a month focused on ptsd, diagnosis and diminishment, we started the effort to raise awareness that struggle is normal and trauma can be a catalyst to growth and opportunity. Dedicating a Life Full of Purpose: A Personal Journey In the modern quest for meaning and fulfillment, the concept of living a life full of purpose often emerges as a guiding star. Yet, navigating this path can be challenging and sometimes misleading, given that each person's journey is uniquely their own. For me, the call to live purposefully has been intertwined with a deep passion for creativity and a heartfelt desire to support others through various mental states, ultimately striving to be a person my children can proudly call their father. The Illusion of a One-Size-Fits-All Purpose The idea of living a purposeful life is often presented in a way that suggests there is a singular, correct path to follow. This notion can lead to confusion and a sense of misdirection, as people grapple with trying to fit into a mold that may not align with their true selves. The reality, however, is that purpose is deeply personal and varied. Each individual's path is distinct, shaped by their experiences, passions, and values. Embracing Individual Paths Understanding that there is no universal blueprint for a purposeful life is liberating. It allows us to embrace our unique journeys and the myriad ways we can find meaning. For me, this realization came with recognizing my passion for creativity. Creating art, whether through writing, painting, or any other form of expression, became a way to channel my inner self and connect with others on a profound level. The Power of Creativity Creativity is a powerful tool for personal growth and connection. It enables us to express our deepest thoughts and emotions, making it a vital aspect of my journey towards purpose. Through creativity, I found a way to communicate and empathize with others, particularly those facing mental health challenges. Art can be a therapeutic medium, offering solace and understanding to those who may struggle to articulate their feelings through conventional means. Helping Others in Their Mental Health Journey One of the most fulfilling aspects of my purposeful life has been the ability to help people navigate their mental health. Mental well-being is a crucial component of a fulfilling life, yet it is often neglected or misunderstood. By using my creativity to support others, I have found a way to make a meaningful impact.
