📌Seeds Of Inspiration.... 🌱 3.Pruning for Progress🍃 In my garden, I confront a struggling sapling, its branches are entangled and weary. Armed with pruning shears, I embark on a ritual of release. With each snip, I shed deadwood, lightening both plants and spirit. In this intimate dance, I learn the art of letting go, creating space for growth. Weeks pass, and the sapling transforms, reaching skyward with newfound resilience. Through nurturing my plants, I nurture my own spirit, embracing change and the boundless potential for growth. #gardening #startup #growthmindset

I love gardening and the various challenges that come along with gardening. As the Founder of ExstoBio, I've often found that building and nurturing a #startup is much like gardening. Both require patience, dedication, challenges, and a vision for growth. Here are a few insights I've gathered along the way: Planting Seeds 🌱 - Just as a garden begins with seeds, startups begin with ideas. It's essential to choose the right seeds—ideas that align with your vision and have the potential to grow into something meaningful. This also includes the team that you build and the advisors with whom you surround yourself. Nurturing Growth 🌿 - In both gardening and startups, nurturing is key. It involves putting in the hard work, dedication, and time to cultivate growth. This means investing in your team's development, fostering innovation, and nurturing relationships with clients and partners. You don’t see the fruits of your labor right away and you pray that you are doing the right thing. Weathering the Storms ⛈️ - This is a big one. Every gardener knows the unpredictability of weather. Startups face similar challenges—market changes, unexpected obstacles, and economic shifts. #Resilience is crucial. Learning to adapt and innovate during tough times can make all the difference. Pruning for Success ✂️ - Sometimes, less is more. In gardening, pruning helps plants grow stronger and healthier. In startups, it involves making tough decisions about where to focus your efforts and resources. Streamlining processes and pivoting when necessary can lead to a more robust business. Celebrating the Harvest 🌾 - There's nothing like the joy of seeing your garden bloom. Similarly, seeing your startup and team thrive is incredibly rewarding. Celebrate the milestones, both big and small, and appreciate the journey. Starting and growing a business isn't always easy, but just like gardening, it's a labor of love and you must be in for the long haul. Embrace the challenges, enjoy the process, and watch as your hard work blossoms into success. What parallels have you found between your entrepreneurial journey and other life experiences? I'd love to hear your thoughts! #Gardening #GrowthMindset #Leadership #Innovation #Resilience

It’s been a while since my last post! I’ve been on a journey working on becoming a #BetterHuman. It’s been challenging but worth every step. Still walking. :) Here are a couple of insights from my learnings: 1. The journey is a process. Progress isn’t instant. The only way forward is through. 2. Clarity is key. Effort without a clear vision and intention can be wasted. I realized I’ve been pursuing goals without a clear vision, which made the process much more burdensome. :O I love this quote from Diane von Furstenberg: “Clarity is the most important thing. I can compare clarity to pruning in gardening. You know, you need to be clear. If you are not clear, nothing is going to happen. You have to be clear. Then you have to be confident about your vision. And after that, you just have to put a lot of work in.” What’s your journey like? What are your challenges? Are you clear? #Vision #Purpose #Clarity #GrowthMatters #BeingHuman

Sometimes to me - Startups are just like gardening. If you are building a #startup or in the middle of running a #startup - 10 minutes of your time to reflect on what you're actually doing every day Seed to Harvest (Exit) - I reflect a little on this analogy #medtech #startupgrowth #exitstrategy
Running a startup is a bit like gardening

Little Farm Quarterly Update #3 (LFQU3) 9 months in already down here on the Little Farm, which continues to be an absolute joy, lots of work & lots of learning. Before we go into the lessons learned bit, I thought it might be useful time to start documenting the headcount of the farm fam. We started we me, Fred & the inherited grumpy old sheep Tatiana. We added 6 chooks & 6 ducklings in the first few months. Since then, we lost a few friends - rest well Tina Turner, Bonnie Tyler & a couple of baby chooks who didn’t quite make it…but you were all very much loved. In happier news, we have welcomed some new floofs which were incubated from little eggies, soon Meatloaf & Rod Stewart the Silkie Roosters will get a few new friends - 11 little chooklings are growing up fast! And now, down to the advice part of the LFQU - this time it’s the top four duckling life lessons that will always see you right. 1. Every day is an exciting opportunity to create new things, don’t hold on to yesterday cause it’s already gone. We recommend jumping out of bed (the duck shed) at significant pace cause who knows what you might be missing! Carpe the duck out of that diem people 2. One of our Waddle isn’t as nimble as us, but we really like to go fast. Most of the time that’s ok, but when there’s an emergency, one of us always stays back with them just to make sure they’re ok. A good duck doesn’t leave a team member behind. 3. Treat yo’self! Are you working hard at being a founder/duck? Good for you! Don’t forget to give yourself little rewards every day just to keep going. Our favourite thing is when the slightly taller member of our waddle comes out with a bowl of peas to thank us for all our ducking hard work - it’s a simple thing, but it really makes our day. 4. We ducking love being ducks, so much so that we often forget to stop & rest. The taller duck we mentioned earlier reminds us when to rest and when to go to bed. She’s a bit of a buzz kill sometimes, but we need that other duck to intervene and tell us it’s bedtime. Do you have a wise duck in your tribe who you haven’t thanked in a while for waddling alongside you every step of the way? You’re lucky, say thank you for what they do. #LittleFarm #LFQU

BASEBALL AND URBAN FARMING – STARS AND STRIPES, LIKE, FOREVER How do #baseball (America’s pastime) and #UrbanFarming both reflect and help steer, and define, #American values and society? Let me count the ways. (1) #Accessibility – Baseball and Urban Farming are, and must remain, accessible and of service to people of all social classes and background. Their #egalitarian nature reflects a quintessential American predisposition that is wholly worth preserving. (2) American #identity – Baseball was invented in the 19th century when many Americans wanted a game that was uniquely American. Urban farming, meanwhile, has a long history in the United States, harking back to colonial times when home gardens were common and considered essential (and, yes, pigs even roamed the streets) in urban areas. During #WWI, the #GreatDepression and #WWII, #urbanagriculture spread widely across the country. And in 1829, concerned businessmen, farmers and gardeners of #Boston founded the Massachusetts Horticultural Society (MHS) -- the oldest, formally organized horticultural institution in the U.S. that has successfully championed important Urban Farming initiatives, including the introduction of food plants (1853), the adornment of Boston’s back alleys by establishing home gardens (1930s), and the victory garden movement (1940s), among others. (3) Home runs – A baseball #homerun can suddenly change the course of a game, leading to some of the most memorable moments in American sports. Likewise, Urban-Agriculture “home runs” -- as were achieved during WWI, the Great Depression and WWII’s victory gardens, among others – proved positively pivotal in helping secure the country’s transformational history. It was a pleasure to meet at the Summit Christopher Grallert, President and CEO at Green City Growers, which operates and maintains, among numerous projects, #FenwayFarms on a rooftop at the iconic Fenway Park in #Boston – built in 1912 and has since been the ballpark of Major League Baseball (MLB)'s Boston Red Sox. Green City Growers is a Certified #BCorp (Benefit Corporation), designed as a source for #good by serving #community and #society -- using the power of business to solve #social and #environmental problems. What’s more, Green City Growers launched in 2021 its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (#ESOP) that allows employees to become partial #owners of the company. I am proud to call Christopher Grallert – veritably that rare #philosopher #farmer – an industry colleague and a friend. https://lnkd.in/gPupWk2Z Christopher Grallert, Maggie Sue Anderson, Jody Norman, Brad Gaolach, Lance Davis, FAIA, LEED Fellow, MSU Fellow, Mark Buehrer, P.E., Rodriguez FRSA, Mohamed Imam, Charlie Brooker, Benjamin Fahrer, Gundula Proksch, Abeni Ramsey, Pat Lando, Myer Harrell, Adrian Parr Zaretsky, Daniel Westhoven, Grace Benzler Oregon State University, Washington State University, Institute for Health in the Built Environment, University of Arizona, NIFA USDA, USDA, FAO
