𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢, 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙑𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 Vincent Van Der Wilk has been working at Royal Brinkman since 2011 as the Area Manager for Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Let's have a chat with him. 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙚, 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪? I'm Vincent van der Wilk, I live in Naaldwijk with my girlfriend and 2 kids. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙤𝙮𝙖𝙡 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪? Every day is different because of the various countries and customers. Never boring, and there's always a suitable solution for everyone at all times. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢? Together with my team, we are in the field of acquisition and customer management in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙜𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪? Friendly, helpful, reliable, and perhaps sometimes a bit too structured 😉 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙟𝙤𝙗? I especially enjoy customer visits abroad. Building long-term relationships in a beautiful foreign environment. 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩? I always wanted to work in an international environment. As a result I found a job at the international department of Royal Brinkman. Since I arrived I still enjoy going to my work every day. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙫𝙚𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙪𝙞𝙩? All types of fruit and vegetables. Traveling gives you the chance to eat some of the cuisine. I eat (almost) anything. 𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛? Honestly, not really. Every year we buy new plants for our backyard. Unfortunately, the majority of these ending up in the bin fairly quickly. Maybe someone can offer some practical tips 😉. #meettheteam #teamroyalbrinkman #royalbrinkman

I agree that, “Shipping is a lifestyle not a job”. I do not believe in work/life balance but in integration. It is a privilege to work in an international industry which has a recorded 5,000 year history, starting from the Mediterranean, to Greece, to Rome, to the European empire, to the rise of the East. At the end of coloniasm, shipping played a vital role in enabling the rise of globalization and will again play a central role at the end of globalization and the rise of regional shipping, as we see the rise of rail corridors on the continent connecting mineral-rich-landlocked countries to ports. At Linsen Nambi we support curious people who are able to organize and re-organize themselves and their resources into many combinations which has allowed us to launch Linsen Nambi Marine Surveying and a junior shipbroker internship at Linsen Nambi Shipbroking. These endeavors are successful because, firstly they meet the needs of our customers and secondly we have a culture that actually implements business strategy. Drawing on our pool of seafarers we have solved the good-fit dilemma, increased our employee engagement, increased our top line revenue through our new marine surveying services and achieved quality growth in our bunker business, which cannot be competed away - evidenced by our competitors becoming collaborators. We reman intentional about protecting our culture, because as the saying goes, “you don’t want a bad strategy implemented well, or a good strategy implemented poorly” Christopher Vonheim BW Group INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SHIPBROKERS, SOUTH AFRICA

Ask the question This is a picture of an unused driveway I go past at least once a month when I visit a client. The street is quite industrial so parking is not easy except that people do not tend to park in front of this driveway. No one except me. I love going there because every time I park there it feels like a little bonus that life has given me. The impact of finding a car park on one's energy is amazing. It does make me think though. Why is this happening? Why do so many people not see the opportunity? Are we so hard-wired to avoid driveways that we never take a closer look? Question of the week: what opportunities have taken you a long time to see despite being right in front of you? Are there any right now you are not recognising?

Match the job to the personality traits?! Travelling with two colleagues on the west coast of Norway yesterday - an interesting insight to their personalities and job roles. High winds meant many flights were cancelled and others delayed (I am filled with admiration for the skills of Widerøe's pilots). Waiting in the airport as follows: Person 1 - it's all going to be fine, everything will work out, happy and relaxed, optimistic about making it home (alive) (the sales guy) Person 2 - analysing & tracks the incoming flight, its origin point departure time, wind speeds and weather forecast, looks at alternative transport methods, contingency planning (the project manager) Person 3 - contacts partner to say we won't make it home, makes arrangements for car to be collected from airport parking, wonders about tomorrow's meetings and how to rearrange some activities (me, digging into my contractual 'plan for the worst case scenario' decade of experience!) As an aside - from travelling with a small child I tend to have at least some spare clothes, expecting that child/ parent will at some point cover you in food - so on one base, I was covered :-)

Certainly is. One of the most interesting and rewarding roles I have held.
This is a fantastic opportunity for two outstanding individuals to join the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. If it sounds like a fit for you, we'd welcome your application. If not, though, it would be great if you could help us spread the word by sharing with your own contacts. I can guarantee it will be really interesting. https://lnkd.in/gAMYUGGi
