Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the emancipation of all slaves in the United States. It’s a day of celebration and reflection. We were honored to participate in two impactful Juneteenth events this past weekend on behalf of Orange County Transportation Authority and Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC). The Orange County Heritage Council sponsored a free cultural event, promoting community, unity, and equality. Additionally, the City of Riverside hosted its 4th Annual Juneteenth Recognition Celebration. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Inclusivity #OrangeCounty #Riverside #ArellanoAssociates

🔍 Breaking Down Ableism in the Church: Why It Matters 🏛️ Ableism - it's a term you might have heard, but what does it mean, and why should you care? 🤔 Ableism refers to the discrimination and exclusion of individuals with disabilities within societal systems, including our beloved churches. It's about when the physical, emotional, and social needs of everyone aren't equally considered. So, why does this matter? Because the church is a place of love, community, and acceptance, but when it's not accessible to all, it sends a message that some are less valued. By addressing ableism in the church, we can create a more inclusive, welcoming, and loving community for everyone. It's about living out our values and truly embracing diversity. 🙌💖 Let's make our churches spaces where all are celebrated, no matter their abilities. Together, we can make a difference! 💪 #AbleismAwareness #InclusivityInChurch #EmbraceDiversity

How would you feel if you discovered today that you had been free for over a year, but no one had told you? This unimaginable scenario was a reality for many enslaved individuals in the United States before Juneteenth. Wong Fleming commemorates Juneteenth, celebrated each year on June 19th. This significant day marks the emancipation of enslaved individuals in the United States. Although the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation had declared the end of slavery for Confederate states on January 1, 1863, many enslavers intentionally held this information from their slaves and refused to follow it. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865 that Major General Gordon Granger arrived with a force of soldiers in Galveston, Texas, delivering General Order No. 3, which proclaimed the end of the civil war and freedom of all enslaved individuals in Texas. This freed more than 250,000 people, granting them the option to depart or remain and be regarded as employed laborers. The newly freed population of Texas marked this significant milestone, establishing Juneteenth as an annual celebration. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. Throughout the United States, Juneteenth is celebrated by holding local community events, parades, parties, and festivities. Wong Fleming is committed to observing Juneteenth as a day of celebration and reflection and has made Juneteenth a firm-wide holiday. We strive to foster an inclusive environment that values the unique perspectives and experiences of all individuals, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, gender, or background. We are fully committed to sustained engagement in helping end racial and economic inequity in our city, community, and industry. #wongfleming #juneteenth #juneteenth2024 #federalholiday #observance #june19 #emancipationproclamation #diversity #slavery #freedom #equality #humanrights #justice

As people post up images and words for #IndigenousPeoplesDay, may folks also reflect on the land they are on - beyond #LandAcknowledgement. Reflect on whether they exemplify stewardship of this land, whether they are part of the violence inflicted on this land (figuratively and literally), whether they support the continued colonization and violence through what they support and don't support, their behaviours, and their performativity on days like today. What are you genuinely and authentically doing in regards to #TruthAndReconciliation and #CallsForJustice re: #MMIWG? Having access to Indigenous people you call colleagues, friends, etc... is superficial until your actions speak. Hope people spend time today, and every day, to support Indigenous led events, businesses, and movements. Organizations who exemplify performative DEI, should cross the threshold into Justice. #Indigenous #FirstNations #Metis #Inuit #Allyship #Colonization #Support #Stewarship #Landback #StolenLand #Equity #Diversity #Inclusion #Justice

Recent studies have highlighted a significant disparity in the visitation rates of national parks among different ethnic groups, with Black and Native Americans being the least represented. Many Black and Native American individuals have reported feeling unwelcome or unsafe in these spaces, a sentiment stemming from historical exclusion and ongoing discrimination. This lack of representation and inclusivity not only alienates these communities but also perpetuates a cycle where systemic racism continues, missing out on the rich cultural perspectives and contributions of diverse groups. Supporting grassroots Native-led initiatives, such as Indigenous Youth Voices for Conservation, is essential to indigenizing these spaces. These trips bring together Indigenous elders, youth, and conservation leaders, fostering a deeper connection to the land through storytelling and traditional ecological knowledge. By involving Indigenous voices in conservation efforts, we can reshape the narrative of these spaces to reflect a more inclusive and accurate history. Text "NATIVE YOUTH" to 44-321 to support these initiatives and reach out to us to find ways to collaborate. Together, we can ensure that national parks and the great outdoors are welcoming and safe for everyone. #IndigenousYouthVoices #Conservation #Nationalparks #GreatOutdoors #UndoingSystemicRacism #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Grassroots #nonprofit #support #nativeLed #Native #nativeamerican #Indigenous #NativeYouth #AfricanAmericans #LandBack

Today, while traveling back from my office I came across a lady bus conductor who collected the fare and announced the stations. Upon finding an opportunity I started to converse with her. According to her- she joined the work a month back. There were 25 lady staff trained but now only few are surviving. Some felt shy while others could not bear the struggle so left the job. 🗣️It's truly inspiring to encounter individuals like her who face challenges with courage and determination. Her willingness to overcome obstacles and provide for her family is commendable. She embodies the spirit of resilience and hard work. #International Day of #SocialJustice, is celebrated annually on February 20th.
