Exciting news coming out of KSA this week as Aramco awarded contracts in excess of $25 BB to drive the country's gas expansion strategies with production increasing by almost two thirds. The further development of the Jafurah field (circa 230 TCF of raw gas plus condensates), integral to Aramco’s Master Gas System (MGS), is key to the expansion. Almost 80% of this investment will be in LSTK commercial format for pre-FID studies, FEED's, new gas compression, pipelines, gas processing trains, storage, new export facilities and existing MGS expansion. The remaining 20% will be for new and revised gas drilling rig contracts. A huge and challenging series of gas development projects that will fully exploit the KSA ICV incentives and create added value for Aramco and subsidiaries for many years to come.

As promised earlier this year, the second package for Petroleum Development Oman, Oman has also been dispatched. Although similar to the first package, these two packages serve distinct projects and purposes. The second package is designated for integration into the MMPS Gas Compression Project, currently conducted by the EPC team. This package consists of two nitrogen generators, with one serving as a backup if required. Similar to the package for the Birba Flare Reduction E&P Project, this setup employs two 6” membranes per train to produce either 33 Nm3/hr at 7 barg or, if needed, 26 Nm3/hr at 5 barg. The nitrogen purity remains consistent at 98%. As we move through 2024, the global #energy sector is seeing a significant transformation in #contractual activities, evidenced by a 14% decline in publicly announced #contracts from the last quarter of 2023. This year's #sanctioning activity is projected to decrease by 30% to about $126 billion, influenced heavily by aramco's decision to delay its #Safaniya Incremental project and the US administration's review of #onshore #LNG projects for #environmental impacts. Despite the dip in #engineering & #construction contractual activity there are notable developments such as QatarEnergy’s $6 billion #Ruya development and ADNOC Group’s #Ruwais LNG project. #Equipment and #materials segment remained robust with multiple #subsea contracts to suppliers such as TechnipFMC. The quarter also saw numerous #vessel and #seismic awards. Looking ahead, with regions like South America ramping up tendering activity, Saudi Aramco focusing on #brownfield packages, global energy suppliers will have their hands full in the short term future. With the #US experiencing a revival in #fracking amid favorable #oil prices, North American #rig activity is also expected to show growth. Aramco to make $2bn gas expansion at Jafurah Saudi Aramco is planning to build three new gas compression plants at the Jafurah field for $2.2 billion in a joint venture with Spanish contractor Técnicas Reunidas and China’s Sinopec. The project aims to increase production by more than 60 percent by 2030 compared to 2021 levels, with contracts awarded exceeding $25 billion. The Jafurah unconventional gas field is estimated to hold significant amounts of raw gas and condensate, with phase one development anticipated to open in the third quarter of 2025. aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated #energy and #chemicals companies, and NextDecade Corporation (NextDecade) announced that their respective subsidiaries have executed a non-binding Heads of Agreement (HoA) for a 20-year liquefied natural gas sale and purchase agreement (LNG SPA) for offtake from Train 4 at the Rio Grande LNG Facility at the Port of Brownsville - Texas, #USA. Under the terms of the HoA, Aramco expects to purchase 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of #LNG for 20 years on a free on board basis, at a price indexed to Henry Hub. Aramco and NextDecade are currently in the process of negotiating a binding agreement, and once executed, the effectiveness of which will be subject to a positive Final #Investment Decision on Train 4. As per MEED | Middle East Economic Digest data, aramco awarded more than $5 billion worth of #offshore engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contracts to entities in its Long-Term Agreement (LTA) pool of offshore contractors in 2023. The #Saudi energy giant is expected to leave the tap running on offshore #oilandgas project spending this year too.
