NEWS UPDATE. ICE BAN + EV CHARGING OUR NPC Newshounds previously reported that Labour has said that it intends to restore the 2030 phase-out date (ICE BAN 2030) for the sale of new petrol and diesel cars. ICE being Internal Combustion Engines. Today October 4th we can report that the latest update this week is that a consultation is expected that will determine the type of hybrid cars that will be eligible for sale UNTIL 2035. This is a return to the Conservative government’s position back in 2020. The phase-out for ICE petrol and diesel cars is closely linked to the Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) mandate, which was introduced January 2024. Under the ZEV mandate, 22% of new car sales and 10% of new van sales must be ZEVs this year, and this percentage will continue to rise. By 2030, 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans sold will need to be zero-emission, increasing to 100% by 2035. At NPC we understand this latest ‘tweak’ this week, to the Labour manifesto pledge has been implied by a spokesperson for the Department of Transport, who has said: “This government’s policy has always been to revert to the original 2030 phase-out date for the sale of new vehicles with pure internal combustion engines. In essence we see that this move will further accelerate the adoption of EVs, encourage investment in charging infrastructure, and drive innovation in battery technology. Quebec is getting rid of purchase incentives for electric vehicles. You can read my story on that here: https://lnkd.in/gaC7sUs5 Is this a good or bad idea? Depends. You have some people on one side who’ve disagreed with rebates all along, including mandates, saying the free market should decide if EVs are desired by society and tax money shouldn’t be used at all to incentivize people. You have the other side that wants them, led by the dealers and vehicle manufacturers associations who say rebates are essential to getting people to make the transition to electrification, especially given the high price tags of such vehicles. Bottom line is that the incentives have worked. B.C. and Quebec — the only regions in Canada with incentives — far and away lead the country in EV adoption with at least 20% of new vehicles being an EV. Yukon and Ontario — tied for third — are well behind at about 6%. The Quebec government doesn’t feel rebates are needed anymore. How will this impact EV adoption? Will consumers rush out to buy a vehicle this year before they drop and are eliminated by 2027? Or will more affordable options promised by automakers render incentives unnecessary? Let’s find out. #automotive #autocare #automotiveaftermarket #electriccars Turnkey Media Solutions

12 months ago someone would be quite forward, "I'm not interested in electric." ⏩ Another 12 months on and people are open to looking at a #Novatedlease EV next to their other vehicles. Great to see the infrastructure, affordability and proof continuing to open roads up to all vehicle types. Some key benefits of EV's and regional travel: ✔ Increasing customers for small business ✔ Revive and Survive every 2 hours ✔ Reduced travel costs Then of course there's the tax, GST and fuel savings to go with it! What better way to see the best parts of our country. This article from the ABC highlights a few milestone moments as we head in to the warmer weather: https://lnkd.in/gd-zHYcE

#eMobility does not have a demand issue. As soon the #EV pricing is done for the masses, then the masses go for #electric #vehicles ⚡⚡⚡ #France planned 20,000 contracts in a special #lease scheme in 2024, after a huge response, it's upped that to 50,000. The scheme, announced last December, would see low-income #drivers that met some rather strict eligibility requirements (primarily an annual income under €15,400) able to lease EVs for #subsidized prices - as low as €100 to €150 per month, with no down payment. The program will resume next year, and expect a similar #headline from us in early 2025 as undoubtedly that year's slots will all be taken in a few weeks too, unless they are massively multiplied. Did you know that cars sold in America are 31% more efficient than cars sold in Australia? That's because Australia is one of the last countries in the world to not have New Vehicle Efficiency Standards in place. This is now about to change with the Federal government announcing their efficiency standards policy. The proposal will improve EV model availability, while saving people across Australia thousands of dollars in petrol costs each year. We look forward to seeing the standards legislated and the roll out of EVs accelerate. https://lnkd.in/gWeMeGXZ Electric Vehicle Council Smart Energy Council

The glossy facade of EV as the way forward for future transportation is still sliding down… the recent spate of negative EV articles debating the decline in EV sales (fields of unsold cars, Fleet buyers cancelling EV purchases, etc) goes to show the dangerous narrow vision of focusing on EV alone as the way forward… investment and time is being lost due to this ‘narrowed view’ and consumers (both owner and business) are so easily influenced by the ‘negative EV’ clouds… hydrogen technology is being held back by the focus on plug-in EV… we as a family are unable to purchase an EV as there isn’t one available that fits our need for long distance driving (unless we plan multiple charging stops making the journey far longer), and the option to charge at home is not possible due to our countryside location not being supported fully for the home electrical upgrade to charge a car (as our neighbours found out to their cost when they bought an EV)… the decline is not going to go away and a lot of people will loose faith in the technology unless things are changed…

Western Australia’s Cook #Laborgovernment announced Monday that it would invest a further $5.2 million into its successful #electricvehicle (EV) rebate scheme. The so-called Zero Emissions Vehicle (#ZEV) scheme has already exceeded original expectations, paying out the $3,500 rebate to 5,900 applications, for a total cost of more than $20 million as Western Australians begin to embrace the #transition to EVs. “We’ve seen huge growth in the number of Western Australians purchasing electric vehicles and our rebate scheme is one of the reasons we’re seeing such a high take-up,” said Rita Saffioti, Western Australia’s transport minister. “We know the cost can make electric vehicles prohibitive for many people, but these rebates are helping to make it more affordable and increasing demand within WA. The decision by the W.A. government to extend the scheme comes after rebates were ended in #NSW, #Victoria and #SouthAustralia, although #Queensland has doubled the size of its rebate offering to $6,000. “The #electrification of transport is one of the key measures that will help us achieve this, and further investment from our government in this scheme, along with more EVs arriving in the #WA market and falling prices, we will see even more people to make the switch to #zeroemission vehicles,” Saffioti said. The #rebate is limited to fully battery EVs, and only for vehicles with a “dutiable” value of $70,000 or less.
