Tandem (Tandem, Partners in Early Learning, a fantastic organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area) works to give kids a great start to learning, focusing on children ages 0-5 (the sooner you can start learning, the better your life’s outcomes). Apparently, MacKenzie Scott endorses Tandem’s approach and execution: Scott’s philanthropic organization just granted $2 million to Tandem, a whopping grant. If you believe in children, if you believe in education, I encourage you to support Tandem with your money, or your time, or your re-posting of Savitha’s announcement below. Or, find an organization near you that focuses on children and figure out how to support them. Even one hour a year is helpful. Seriously. Go try it. (Way to go, Tandem!)

Over 92% of jobs need digital skills and computer literacy. The ability to understand and use technology is no longer an optional skill. It is already a fundamental necessity. For the younger generation, computers and digital technology are their natural environment. Computer literacy extends far beyond being able to surf the internet or play video games. It includes understanding the operation of a computer and even early programming skills. This breadth of knowledge opens possibilities for creativity, collaboration, and exploration. It’s like equipping children with a passport to the world. This is where educational computers for kids serve as a versatile tool. It helps shape their learning experiences. Support Students 🤝 Donate School Supplies On Aug. 19, nearly 25,000 Springfield Public Schools students will come to school eager to learn. However, not all of them will have the supplies they need due to lack of resources. To help support students and their families, SPS is launching Ready. Set. Supply!, its annual campaign to collect school supply donations so all SPS students can start the school year off right. "A new school year is an exciting time for students but it can also be costly for families, especially those with multiple school-aged children," explained Jessica Blake, coordinator of community relations. "We want to help fill those gaps and make sure every student has the necessary supplies to be success ready." Community members and organizations can help by donating school supplies or making financial contributions. The lazy days of summer are coming to a close, and we’re now entering National Back to School Month! 📚✏️ This time of the year can be both exciting and stressful. There’s a lot to coordinate: purchasing supplies, signing up for afterschool activities, and simply readjusting schedules. But there’s no doubt that education is one of the greatest investments we can make in our children’s futures. Helping families with financial strategies to fund educational goals is one of the most rewarding parts of our jobs. It is also so fulfilling to support education in our communities during this time of the year through donations. I’ve put together a list of all the ways the Charity I’m looking to start can help. It includes: -Instead of 3rd-6th, it could focus on all stages of childhood, through high school. We would partner with the scholarships available to provide additional funding in fields associated, to allow funding for those charities to go even further, doubling the good in the community. -I’d eventually look to bring industry professionals in to mentor, teach, speak, and advise. -I would look to have daycare-focusing on inner-city children means understanding mom and dad can’t afford childcare for the others. These daycares would focus on STEM to encourage development and interest at a young age. -I would look at partnering with the local school districts for after school care as well as potential in school teachings-like Trade Schools. -I would inquire into allowing a membership to allow additional enrollees. Every paid membership pays a membership for another child/family. -This would help encourage development in the industry in the Midwest, and could even set up partnerships/scholarships for college. -We could run a monthly publication, teaching kids how to write articles and build a brand about their writing, and give them experience. -Partnering with WTTW Games could get them into the industry right away.

Our daughter's school fundraiser tickets went up in price this year. Being on the donation committee, I started hearing rumors. "This price doesn't seem accessible for parents." "Are we turning into one of 'those schools'"? "This feels icky." This comes in the context of our school being in a gentrifying neighborhood. Things are changing, more fundraising is happening, but I also know that people choose our school because of the principal's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. So I spoke to the organizers about the ticket price. That price just covered the costs, included free tickets for teachers and our bi-lingual council, and was supported by the principal. The school's values hadn't changed, but because the new price didn't educate parents about the thinking that went into it, it was left open to rumors. This is one of the big benefits to #listening - knowing where your community needs education about your work. It might be; 😕 Misinterpreting your mission or scope ⚖ Not seeing how your values connect to a decision 💰 Making assumptions about how you are funded Want to know how much the ticket price went up? $10 It doesn't take much for assumptions to be made in changing environments so don't forget to listen and educate. Have you seen a situation where a nonprofit needed to educate its community about a decision?

Hello Colleagues, Connections, and Friends! The CohnReznick LLP Charlotte office CARES initiative for July has been collecting donations for Classroom Central. Through their partnerships, each $1 donated becomes $9 worth of distributed supplies for students in our community. These donations give students the supplies they need for a successful school year. Every dollar donated (via the link below) through the end of the day today will go to purchasing kits that will be given to local students in need. We will assemble these kits ourselves, and deliver them to Classroom Central next month. Please consider making a small (or large) donation to our local students and teachers! Consider this insight from a 3rd-grade teacher in Charlotte: "There are always unseen challenges for students. As teachers, we strive to understand and address the struggles they face outside the classroom. When kids live in poverty and high-stress environments, focusing on learning to read or understand fractions becomes incrementally more difficult, not to mention the stress of worrying if they can get the necessary books and supplies they need to complete their homework and lessons. With the help of Classroom Central, I can alleviate at least one of their stressors, making it easier for them to feel capable and successful while they're at school."
