Retired oil and gas platforms create vital marine habitat in the Gulf of Mexico. The sandy and muddy sea bottom of the Gulf of Mexico is nearly devoid of natural reefs, making the retired oil and gas infrastructure even more important for creating and maintaining fish habitat. Unfortunatly, of the 7,000 platforms installed in the Gulf, only 1,500 remain today. More must be done to keep the remaining platforms from being removed.
