Successful brands are built from the organisation out, not the billboard in. Most businesses don't realise their branding potential, instead 'trading' from day to day. Let me show you how to become a respected brand
Is it time to change the #malaysiatrulyasia tagline? Absolutely. And here are 3 reasons why. 1) It’s not a true representation of the brand. #Malaysia is not truly #Asia. Sure there are plenty of examples of cross cultural integration - think Hindu influences in Malay weddings, Chinese influences such as fireworks and green packets at Raya - but Malaysia isn't Asia. Moreover, other countries simply don’t agree with the statement. For instance when we carried out research on the tagline a few years ago, we did focus groups around the world and in #Vietnam someone said, “We have 4,000 years of history, what can Malaysia tell us about being Asian?” 2) Tourism Malaysia doesn’t appear to have a competitive #destination #brand #strategy. Actually it doesn't appear to have any strategy. Except maybe ‘get as many arrivals as possible, from anywhere, preferably #China because there are lots of them.’ It’s time to develop a brand strategy and if a #tagline is necessary (and its debatable in a social media dominated world) then it must reflect the new offering. And by brand strategy I don't mean #marketing plan. Many tourism products are an embarrassment but also have a lot of potential. However the approach and understanding of how to get the most out of a product and monetise them, needs to be revised. And policy needs to change too. Currently, it's just not financially viable for a property developer to invest in #hospitality products and a potential 15 - 25 year ROI compared to residential properties that are often sold off plan, using the buyers loans, at very little risk to the developer. 3) Since the first VMY in 1990, when tourists often visited a destination and stayed there for 2 - 3 weeks, the world has changed. Low cost carriers have revolutionised the way we travel and what we do when we travel. More countries have opened their doors to travellers and have the infrastructure to look after them. It's not uncommon for travellers who spend 13 hours on a flight to arrive in Asia and use a country as a base to visit other countries. This requires more innovative thinking than another VMY. The tagline has served Malaysia well. But it is no longer relevant and needs to change. Quickly... Fusionbrand | Brand Consultants #branding #nationbranding

Hello connections, “It’s been 50 years that GOI made a deliberate effort to promote beach tourism in Lakshadweep archipelago” ‘What an island, electronic brand and app tell us about India and Lakshadweep’ #indiaandlakshadweep Former Indonesian president Megawati Sukarnoputri has said that during her travels she had to mention that her country is where Bali is located. Bali is a province but its international branding makes it a reference point for Indonesia and it stands out not only for its comfort but also for the absence of alcohol and attire. #baliexample Hardly had anyone heard the name of Japanese firm Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo but everyone has heard about Sony, the brand owned by the company. It’s not a Japanese name and it was picked up by the founder because of its ease of pronunciation and lively ring. They even named the company as Sony in 1958 because of the powerful brand name appeal. #sony The Chinese social media app tiktok has a name that resonates with the global fanbase of its short video format. It wouldn’t had been an international sensation if it had retained its Chinese moniker : Douyin. #tiktok The brand name acts as a powerful signal therefore, a successful brand must be underpinned by a conscious decision to appeal it uniformly across an international base which is true in the case of domestic markets and global markets to those with limited purchasing power. #signalagoodexperience A good way to signal international is the choice of ambient music in airports, airplanes, hotels, restaurants, big office companies. Peppy music that has a global cache is a better choice than local music. #tunesmatter For selling Lakshadweep, we should be serious about selling Lakshadweep as an island destination for jetsetter international tourists.

Check out my latest article! After reading it, my friend and great mentor Hartono Parbudi shared some truly insightful feedback that really blew my mind. His uniquely rich experience gave him a perspective that I hadn't considered before. I'm grateful to have such a wise and knowledgeable mentor in my corner. Here is what he has to say: "Hi Rudolf, I ran some friends who have also Incidentally read your article I said the author is a good friend. He commended it and said the piece is very insightful and inspirational. We agree with the idea of promoting Indonesia's tourism industry but see the classic problems namely lack of support from domestic tourists to destinations outside of Bali as well as lack of creativity of industry players at those destinations. It's like a chicken and egg situation. You can't expect Balinese tradition and culture are available in those areas. I remember my trip to Batam in 1987. I stayed at the then best hotel Batam View and had a meeting with the banks at the other end of the island. The hotel, which had only two guests, was all staffed by Balinese so as to serve and entertain guests, mostly Singaporean weekenders with Balinese hospitality. They performed dances too. But the manager admitted that it was a wrong concept. It happened also in Bangka. You can't even do it in Lombok. We agreed local communities need to be encouraged in order to strengthen competition with Bali, not copy it. The more and more often the government or private sector convene meetings or do businesses in those exotic areas, will definitely provide a lot of ideas for locals to better leverage and develop the distinct characteristics of the area which ultimately becomes a distinct attraction known to both domestic and overseas tourists A lot of work to do and all hands should be on deck. Meanwhile, Sasa has made a sort of preemptive attack on the culinary side, selecting and adopting spices and dishes from various regions and introducing them to other regions and including the international community. Well done Mate!" Thank you everyone for giving this little thought of mine so much attention. Hope it will at least get us all moving to do our bits for this nation #Indonesia #mentorship #feedback #grateful

Music industry and leisure tourism are at the core of leveraging a huge revenue to boost growth📈 in #Singapore. An estimated 500 million Singapore dollars. That's how much the country could generate from Taylor Swift's six sold-out concerts. The city-state also hosted Coldplay and Ed Sheeran this year, in a slate of headliner events set to bring in millions of dollars in tourism. While Singapore traditionally attracts business travelers, concert economics could be its new growth driver as fans flock to the country to see their favorite stars. In just this month, hotel bookings in Singapore jumped 10% and are on track to hit the highest occupancy levels out of the first eight months of 2024. Demand for flights into the country also surged 20%. According to a director of research at Maybank, Swift's concerts alone could generate S$350-500 million from tourism (USD $260-370 million). Singapore is Swift's only stop in Southeast Asia, which has annoyed some politicians in neighboring countries such as Thailand and the Philippines. Economists upgraded their first-quarter growth📈 forecasts for Singapore, with some attributing the gains in part to Taylor Swift's Eras tour. Gross domestic product will probably expand 2.9% in the three months ending March 31, the quickest pace in six quarters, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey. Economists also raised their annual growth expectation to 2.5% from 2.3% seen previously -toward the upper end of the government's 1%-3% forecast for 2024. 🎥CNBCi #NationBranding #Tourism #Markets #GDP #Growth #Economy #Trade #FX #GlobalTrade #WorldEconomy #Fin4Dev

Investing in luxury property in Malaysia makes good sense for several compelling reasons. The country boasts a rich culture, delicious cuisine, and stunning natural beauty. Foreign investment is on the rise, supported by a government keen on developing Malaysia into a competitive global investment location, offering favourable tax rates. While there are foreign ownership investment thresholds, Melaka stands out with its attractive entry prices for overseas buyers, starting at approximately $150,000 USD, particularly for properties like the Sail residences. We provide a comprehensive 'hand-held' service to guide you through the purchasing process. Cross-pollination between sectors is one of the guiding themes of this curated section and also one of the things that fascinate me the most, especially when backed by a forward-thinking strategy. In Singapore, at the innovative Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center, renowned three-Michelin-star chef Corey Lee is developing a tech-driven "seed-to-table" restaurant concept that opened a few days ago. The Na Oh aims to go beyond cuisine and link traditional Korean craftsmanship with advancements in agricultural technology and the sustainable offerings of HMGICS, the two-story automated smart farm that employs 568 growing towers to produce nine crops, including ice plant, Swiss chard, and romaine lettuce. 🙌 What’s your take? # 373 FOOD, Singapore 👉 More content on our website and subscribe to the weekly newsletter; the link to the featured news is in the first comment below. 🎯 If you want to learn more about our transformative approach to generating growth (yes, what we call innovation marketing!), feel free to write us privately. Maximizing Economic Impact Through Exclusive Deals: Singapore's Success with Taylor Swift In a strategic move that highlights the power of event tourism, Singapore secured an exclusive deal for Taylor Swift's Southeast Asian leg of her Eras Tour in 2024, resulting in a staggering S$500 million economic impact. While neighboring countries faced challenges with religious extremism and concert bans, Singapore capitalized on its concert infrastructure and business acumen to attract millions of fans from across the region. By brokering an exclusive agreement with Swift's promoters, Singapore positioned itself as the sole destination for the megastar's concerts in the region, drawing in over 300,000 fans and generating substantial revenue from ticket sales, accommodations, and tourism-related spending. The Lion City's meticulous planning, including offering subsidies and strategic negotiations, proved instrumental in clinching the deal and maximizing returns on investment. However, the success story comes with a stark contrast to Malaysia's missed opportunity, attributed to political turmoil and shortsightedness. While Singapore thrived with its proactive approach, Malaysia grappled with dangerous religious extremism and political instability, resulting in missed opportunities for economic growth and cultural enrichment. As Singapore continues to position itself as a leader in event tourism, it sets a compelling example for leveraging cultural and entertainment assets to drive economic prosperity and cement its status as a premier destination for global talent and entertainment. Meanwhile, Malaysia's political failings serve as a cautionary tale, underscoring the importance of political stability and foresight in maximizing economic opportunities and nurturing a vibrant cultural landscape.
