As both a media analyst and sports fan, the broadcasting rights aspect of the business has always fascinated me. While many of us take notice of the massive TV deals struck by top US leagues like the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and college football (shoutout to the realigned Big 10), I believe an equally compelling component of the market is the TV revenue progression of developing leagues. In the below excerpt from my appearance on The Amp Podcast, I discuss some of the recent trends among TV deals for top US women’s leagues like the #WNBA and #MarchMadness, and explore certain data points that indicate strong growth potential for these leagues going forward.

Sharing this to contribute to the shift from unconscious to conscious. This is a key difference between getting girls and boys into sport. If you have a daughter, statistics say that the probability is that at some point, she will get her bum grabbed too, without consent. Sorry to say. I was so so lucky as a kid that my peers and friends loved sport. I grew up thinking of my body as a useful machine that could help me have adventures, rather than an object to judge, and I loved the power of sport to build trust, friendships and partnerships. Still do. How can we shift this understanding and behaviour more quickly? - so that sporty girls are able to relax and focus on their performance. Co-ed sport is such a force for good. It teaches patience, trust, forgiveness, leadership, teamwork, loyalty, courage, fun, balance and so much more. I believe that building female confidence and freedom in sport has a direct link to leadership success across the board (and the actual boards of companies!) - and change in sport has the power to impact the world more widely. So how about starting there?
