Black History is more than a month📣 It’s an ongoing commitment, a call to action to learn and do more. We are proud to announce our partnership with eight leading sports organisations for a new research project to better understand the unique needs and experiences of Black British girls in sport. Our previous research has shown a startling disconnect - despite having the most positive attitudes enthusiasm and confidence toward sport among all ethnic groups, only 35% of Black British girls meet recommended activity levels. This disparity speaks to a gap in opportunity, resources, and support that we are determined to address. The findings from this study will be used to drive meaningful change across the sports sector to tackle the inequalities in sport and physical activity for Black British teenage girls. This work is being supported by British Cycling, British Rowing, England and Great Britain Hockey, England Netball, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Football Association, the Lawn Tennis Association and England Rugby Read more about the research here: https://lnkd.in/e-Thzwr4 #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM2024 #BHM

The system is failing midlife women 📣 By the time they reach midlife, women have spent years putting their needs last. It’s no surprise that 1 in 3 women aged 45-64 don’t meet recommended activity levels, according to Sport England research. This is particularly concerning during a time in women’s lives when they are facing menopause symptoms and potential health concerns, many of which sport can alleviate. But inactivity in midlife is not a choice, nor is it guaranteed. Our research shows that 84% of inactive women in this life stage want to be more active. The desire is there, but the support is not. That’s why we created the #TimeTogether campaign, which encourages mums and their teenage daughters to put themselves first and claim back their right to sport – along with the joy and freedom it can bring. Our research has shown that mums are girls’ biggest supporters when it comes to being active, and will often prioritise exercise IF it means their child will take part too. So, midlife women: grab your daughter, niece or a teenage girl in your life and get active together today – this is us telling you it is okay to put yourself first! 🔥 Take part today: https://lnkd.in/exGYgAsk #TimeTogether #ItsNeverTooLate

Sending good luck and perhaps more importantly, good weather, to our incredible supporter Zara Lachlan who sets off on Sunday to row from Europe to South America to raise money for our charity 🌤🚣🏽♀️

🚣♀️ “I am rowing solo and unsupported from mainland Europe to mainland South America, minimum rowing 15 hours a day, and it is expected to take me just under 90 days.” Zara Lachlan says it so matter-of-factly she could be talking about a walk to the corner shop, yet the 21-year-old will be setting off from Portugal on the 3,600-nautical-mile row to French Guiana in the coming days, aiming to become both the first woman and youngest person to complete the feat. What is even more remarkable is that Lachlan decided to embark on the challenge, which is raising money for the Women in Sport charity, only in April and had her first experience in an ocean rowing boat just two months ago. “It definitely is scary, but I feel like if you’re not a little bit apprehensive about it, you’ve not understood the scale of the challenge,” Lachlan says, adding with typical understatement: “Luckily, I quite like rowing.” Find out more ⬇ https://lnkd.in/g6syYnVU #Rowing | #Sport | #Challenge

Meet the mum and daughter duo rediscovering their love of sport 🏃♀️ Mum Lauren and daughter Isabelle have recently become “treadmill buddies” at their local gym, on a shared mission to find joy in being active again. Isabelle, who once doubted she was good enough to try cross-country at school, noticed positive changes in how she feels about herself just weeks after starting to exercise in a safe space with her mum. Her mum Lauren was determined to help Isabelle build a better relationship with exercise than she had while growing up. And it’s working: now, her self-belief has skyrocketed, and she has even landed an offer to be on the school cross country team. Speaking about their #TimeTogether in the gym, Lauren said... “It’s lovely to be on the treadmill together with no distractions, just chatting together going at our own pace.” “It’s even more important now in a social media world where it’s easy to get lost in comparison.” Have you been inspired by Isabelle and Lauren’s story? When mums and daughters team up, they can change the world📣 Right now, teenage girls are facing unprecedented challenges —spiralling mental health struggles, social media pressures, and a world filled with uncertainty. As a result, girls’ worlds are becoming increasingly small. In one study, girls even said that their bedroom is “the only place in the world” where they feel safe. Shockingly, 4 in 10 girls who once loved sport are dropping out in their teenage years. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Sport gives girls resilience, courage, self-belief and a sense of belonging, and they need it more than ever. By being active with a trusted female relative, teenage girls can reclaim sport as a source of joy and connection. Our #TimeTogether campaign is about creating those opportunities. This October, join us and the movement of women and girls coming together to rediscover the joy of sport. Get involved today: https://lnkd.in/exGYgAsk #ItsNeverTooLate #TimeTogether
