We are looking for strong and reliable help for a brief amount of time on Sundays at the Columbia Pike #FarmersMarket! You would arrive at the market no later than 12:45 and greet the AFAC van and their helper. You would unload crates and deliver them to vendors to see if they have excess produce to donate. When the market closes at 1:00, you would help collect the donations and load the bins onto the van. You would most likely be done by 1:30. The market takes place until the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving - we are looking for three individuals (you must be at least 14) who can commit to being there most Sundays (we understand illness/travel/other obligations). Here is a lesser known tip I give to local governments and nonprofits when they are looking at entering FEMA's Public Assistance program. Document all volunteer labor and donations. Any donated services or materials that take the place of paid work can be used to offset the organization's future non-federal cost share. Let's say a city is running a congregate shelter. The value of all the volunteer labor used to run the shelter, provide services, sort donations, and prepare food can be used to buy down the non-federal cost share. Just make sure you keep detailed records of who volunteered, how long they worked, and what they did. Any donated materials that support the shelter count too. Just keep a list of everything that was donated and used. This could save communities thousands, but jurisdictions often miss this opportunity due to a lack of record keeping. #FEMA
