We are almost four weeks away from the #ScoutingforFood Food Drive! AFAC is teaming up with the Chain Bridge District of the National Capital Area Council, BSA once again for the largest annual #fooddrive benefitting AFAC on November 9, 2024. Since 1995, this annual nationwide food drive has collected more than one million pounds of food for AFAC. If you receive a notice from a Scouting Troop on Saturday, November 2, to participate in the food drive, you can leave your non-perishable food contributions in a bag by your front door the morning of Saturday, November 9. Your donations will be collected by local scouts to be delivered to AFAC to feed our neighbors in need this fall. #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac

Happy #WorldAnimalDay! To celebrate, we wanted to feature some of our paw-some team of furry friends, sporting their AFAC bandanas! Inspired by honorary home delivery volunteer driver, Carney the Doodle, our AFAC staff pets also wanted to do their part in reminding you that your food and monetary contributions to AFAC help free up tightly stretched funds for our neighbors in need. This allows them to use their budget for other necessary purchases, like pet food! Learn more about how you can make an impact at afac.org. #afacfeeds #donatefunds #volunteer #donatefood

The #StufftheBus Food Drive is back (and almost two weeks away)! Now on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20, AFAC and ART -- Arlington Transit are teaming up once again to collect enough non-perishable food donations to fill up an entire ART bus. Plan to do your weekly shopping on 10/19 at the Virginia Square Giant [3450 Washington Blvd] and donate your non-perishables to AFAC on your way out! A huge thank you to the Virginia Square Giant for their commitment to collecting food donations for AFAC's neighbors in need this fall. #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac #fooddrive

Are you visiting the #Arlington area and looking for recommendations on how to make the most of your trip? Or maybe you're a long time resident who just needs a little bit of inspiration on how to take advantage of what your city has to offer. Look no further than the complete Arlington guide, "100 Things to Do in Arlington, Virginia Before You Die," written by Barbara Noe Kennedy. AFAC is proud to be mentioned in Chapter 25, where Kennedy reminds readers that even in a wealthy county like Arlington, food insecurity is still a prevalent issue. Volunteering at AFAC is a great way to make an impact in your #community while bonding with your fellow Arlingtonians. Want to know more about how to get involved? Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) reposted this
Last Friday, Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) invited us to Jennie Dean Park for a friendly game of kickball. The game was a fun way to highlight our 15-year partnership and strengthen our bonds with AFAC staff. After some riveting competition, we won the coveted trophy. Langston Stephens, AHC Development Associate, received the MVP Award for his excellent pitching skills. “AFAC staff were excited to play kickball with AHC,” Deborah Staren-Doby, MPH, AFAC Assistant Director of Client Services, said. “We love to create opportunities to grow relationships with our community partners.” We’re so thankful for our partnership with AFAC, which allows our residents easy access to free groceries each week. Thank you, AFAC! Kudos to Donna Budway and Josue Amaya from Our Stomping Ground for being our referees. And a big thank you to the AHC team members and their families who showed up to cheer our team on to victory!
