I am glad more spaces are being created for people to acquire additional tools to be effective leaders in our communities. Especially as we continue to see destructive and regressive movements at the local and state levels across the country. In partnership with Howard University: "The [NSBA] Boards Governance and Strategic Leadership Academy will bolster support for effective governance in K-12 schools by addressing policy development, budgeting, and superintendent/strategic planning evaluation. Executive coaching is available for interested participants. Participants will engage with superintendents, school board leaders, and Howard University faculty to explore problems of practice and learn in an engaging environment." https://lnkd.in/efmBfAFK

Thanks, Tony Borash for sharing this. From the video, "What it has helped us do it connect our practices to our purpose." (Mike Crawford). That seems like such a common-sense approach, but we've all seen so many organizations in education in which everyday practices are not only disconnected from purpose, but often diametrically opposed to purpose. Darden's success with "training superintendents like CEO's" raises questions about WHO we are recruiting to lead schools. Some districts have seen success with non-educators at the helm and yet the majority of superintendents started as teachers. Is that necessary? #superintendents #leadership #education https://lnkd.in/g3VsDU67

Although critical to student success, strong school leader retention alone won’t ensure educational equity for all. Developing a robust leadership pipeline is equally important — especially when it comes to providing adequate representation within the school building. To this end, perhaps no other team member plays a more important role than the AP. But when it comes to effectively understanding and developing these leaders, there are often more questions than answers. For an in-depth look at topics including the specifics of the role, APs’ capacity to influence academic achievement, and how we can help align them for long-term success, read The Wallace Foundation's “The Role of Assistant Principals: Evidence and Insights for Advancing School Leadership” report now. https://lnkd.in/g42fGNkm
