About us
Since 1988, the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) has been researching the world’s best-performing education systems to give states and districts the tools they need to become world class. NCEE has been a leader in U.S. education from policy to practice, producing reports that have led to landmark national legislation, supporting states in redesigning their education systems, and providing rigorous, proven supports to more education leaders than any other organization. NCEE’s dedicated, diverse, and experienced staff are working with teachers, school leaders, district leadership teams, and state policy makers to create a new system of education and return the U.S. to the top of the world education ranks.

Big applause for Hazlehurst City School District! This rural Mississippi district is proving that real change starts with vision and strategy. In partnership with NCEE, they’ve completed a Discovery Analysis to identify strengths, gaps, and growth opportunities—and they’re already making moves by developing a Learner Profile to align teaching and learning with the future their students deserve. 👉 Want to see how real progress starts? Inspired by Hemingway. Made for connection. The six-word story has sparked creativity in classrooms and beyond. We asked our team. The answers? Honest. Funny. Unapologetically real. What’s your six-word story? #SixWordStory #TeamSpotlight #NCEECommunity #Storytelling

Some of my biggest learnings from the National Center on Education and the Economy Leadership Summit last week: • While startups and businesses often focus on just a few clear OKRs, education systems are frequently weighed down by long lists of top-down objectives. Streamlining priorities could make room for deeper, more impactful work. ✨ • To the surprise of some of the high school students at the summit, teachers aren’t hesitant about using AI. In fact, many are eager to explore it—what’s holding them back are privacy and data protection concerns. 🔐 • Education is strengthened when both insiders and outsiders collaborate. 🤝 Those within the system understand its complexities, while those from other sectors can challenge assumptions and reimagine possibilities. And once again, I was reminded that the resilience of education systems is rooted in the passion and persistence of its people! 🙏 Thank you for including us in the conversation. As someone building an edtech tool, it’s a privilege to be invited to the table 🧩 where education leaders are reflecting and strategizing their future priorities.
