What are the Educational, Health, or Economic Benefits to these Players and their Families for that kids uncompensated participation in any additional “NON-SCHOLARSHIP” private third-party postseason football games that pay the Universities and the Conferences for the use of their free labor to put on these highly profitable Bowl events. The answer is ZERO! These additional 1-5 POSTSEASON games are also above the Players’ 12 game athletic scholarship agreement? Our Proposal offers Major Benefits in all three Categories to the Players and their Families! Scholarship Football Players are owed Hundreds of Millions of dollars from this year’s Media contract that uses these Players’ Name, Image, and Likeness NIL without any equitable financial consideration to the Players or their Families! This lost Money could have a major impact on these Players lives, the lives of their current and future family members for generations? We do not support, or agree with the House vs NCAA Settlement or the current covert attempts to extend and expand this Antitrust exploitation of our young (mostly minority) FB & BB Players' labor that the US Supreme Court and Federal District Court have recently struck down as illegal and implausible.

Kudos to the Texas Success Center and Dr. Martha Ellis for bringing Josh Wyner to the Talent Strong Texas Pathways-Board of Trustees Institute. In a roundtable discussion, Trustees and CEOs discussed how their colleges aligned with the key features of Community College 3.0. Community College 3.0 builds on the previous two interations to foster stronger post-completion outcomes. Community College 1.0 focused on access. Community College 2.0 focused on access and completion. Community College 3.0 focuses on access, completion, and post-college success. Students trust us with their hard-earned tuition dollars to help them realize their goals and dreams. Post-college success means helping students post-completion transfer to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution or use their degree and skills to enter the workforce. #communitycollege #studentsuccess

These are American stats but important nonetheless as we re-think what higher education can be.

Hampton Christian Academy's 2024 class was a high achieving bunch. Together they accrued 728 college credit hours. For a class of just 21 that’s an average of almost 35 college credits a student. In other words, on average they completed their first year of college already. Our valedictorian graduated with as many as 74 college credit hours. According to Lending Tree the average cost of a college credit hour from a 4-year institution is $456. Those 74 credit hours are worth around $33,744.  This graduating class also earned over $6 million total in scholarship money. I would say this is a fairly successful high school graduating class. What criteria do you consider to be a successful high school graduating class?

Over the past few months, I’ve been sharing updates about our strategy to expand Rivet School's reach to 800 students by 2027. But why 800? Reaching more students, in and of itself, is a worthy reason to scale. Yet, we see our growth as a means to a larger end — enabling our organization to have indirect impact at the systems-level. If we achieve our goals, Rivet School will have enrolled as many students in SNHU’s degree programs as as a small private BA-granting university (like Wesleyan College, Hanover College, or Harvey Mudd, who each enroll less than 1,000 undergraduates per year). Along the way, we’ll champion policies and pedagogies that center students and prioritize career outcomes: 1) Designing more competency-based degree programs, 2) Implementing practices and policies that support working adult students, and 3) Integrating employer partnerships and career planning into the academic experience, with a focus on ROI for graduates. At the end of the day, Rivet School will never be as large and influential as our traditional institutions. But I know we can contribute something significant to the broader field as more and more people ask the question, “what’s the point of a college degree?” It’s a fair question. At Rivet School, we have a great answer. While I have your attention on higher education reform, let me point you to some of the leaders in this space. Promoting transfer pathways and clarity in the transfer process for students is a key strategy in increasing access in higher education.

College graduation season is not only a time to celebrate the many graduates and everything they have accomplished but also a time to reflect on how #highered can help more learners complete their degrees. Learn more about one of Southern New Hampshire University's partners that is doing just that in Detroit, Michigan. Degree Forward offers low-cost, flexible, project-based degrees to learners who have historically not been served by higher education. Degree Forward in confronting college completion gaps head-on, including launching the Black Male Achievement Initiative to help more Black men reach college graduation. Most notably, the study found that there is a 40 percent increase in the probability of earning a bachelor’s degree when Black students enroll at an HBCU versus those who enroll at predominately white institutions. Additionally, Florida’s four HBCUs, including Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and Florida Memorial University graduate more Black students in STEM disciplines than all other Florida universities combined. Furthermore, HBCU enrollment increases the likelihood an individual’s earnings will reside in Florida and surpass the 75th percentile of Black SAT takers by 2.7 percentage points (14 percent).”
