Access to public transit should be for everyone. Here are a few tips from The Center on Secondary Education for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (CSESA) for navigating public transit: -Create a detailed description of the destination and how to get there. -Practice the route with someone familiar until it is comfortable to do it alone. -Create a visual or script that depicts common behavior on public transportation. -Wear headphones to block out the noise. Travel at quiet times when it is less crowded. -Listen to music or read a book to keep calm and relaxed. At Metro, we also provide guides and support for those looking to ride the bus for the first time. Our free transit instruction program supports individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities, seniors, and students. From personalized one-on-one training to group sessions, we’re here to empower everyone to navigate public transportation. Seasoned Recruiter of Sales/Delivery & SLT talent for Telco Technology vendors worldwide | Executive Search and Exclusive engagements | Talent network developed over 25 yrs
More than one in 100 people are on the autism spectrum and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK alone. Schools are doing an amazing job nowadays supporting young neurodivergent students in accessing the curriculum and creating inclusive school communities. So why do adults with autism have particularly low employment rates – with fewer than three in 10 in work according to the DWP statistics? Surely this is a massive sign that employers need to up their game and look at the gaps in their recruitment practices, understand how their current hiring practices may act as barriers to neurodiverse candidates and ensure that everyone involved in the interview process is trained in autism advocacy. #autismawareness #recruitment

Strategic Hub Lead, Central London Careers Hub in partnership with the Greater London Authority and Careers and Enterprise Company I Dip.Couns MBACP I PPGDip
The Buckland Review of Autism Employment was released earlier this week. 'At the moment only 3 in 10 autistic people of working age are in employment. This means that 7 in 10 of them are unable to access the independence and fulfilment that employment can bring. It also means that employers, and the wider economy, are missing out on the skills and energy that autistic people could be contributing, to the detriment of us all.' (Sir Robert Buckland) The report shows that the disability employment disadvantage gap is higher for autistic individuals and that they face the largest pay gap of all disability groups. There are five key themes that come out through the report and the The National Autistic Society have written an insightful response to the review which is worth taking a look at. One of the recommendations is to ensure that careers advisers in schools and colleges have a good understanding of autism. Earlier research from The National Autistic Society showed that young people feel their teachers don't understand their experience which impacts their time in education. This is why we are funding 240 teachers to undertake interactive training on Autism in our Central London Schools this academic year. There is still work to do and we will continue to explore ways the Central London Careers Hub can support this agenda. #autism #inclusion #actuallyautistic
