Detroit Lions and the City of Detroit: A Story of Revitalization 🦁 Last night, the Detroit Lions brought home another win, taking down the Seattle Seahawks! But this victory isn’t just about one game—it's part of something bigger, something both the team and the city represent: revitalization. For years, the Lions fought for their place, much like Detroit itself. Neither the city nor the team had it easy in the past, but that didn’t stop them. They both stayed resilient, pushed through the hard times, and now, we’re seeing the results. Detroit is thriving—with a renewed sense of energy, purpose, and growth. And the Lions? They're on the same path, proving their strength game after game. Both are showing us that perseverance, hard work, and a strong belief in the future can lead to incredible transformations. 🙌 Here’s to the Detroit Lions and the city that never gives up. On Tuesday we celebrated St. Georges Day, The Patron Saint of England. And it got me thinking. I know there are many saints for many things. As someone that talks about Productivity a lot. I wondered if there was a Patron Saint of Productivity. Me aside of course! But my research tells me there isn't a recognised saint specifically dedicated to productivity. So there is time for it to be me! However, there are saints associated with virtues such as diligence, discipline, and stewardship of time, which are often related to productivity. St. Joseph: He is often invoked as the patron saint of workers, craftsmen, and fathers. He is revered for his humility, hard work, and dedication to his family. St. Benedict of Nursia: He is known for his Rule of Saint Benedict, which emphasises the importance of balance, order, and discipline in daily life. Monastic communities following his rule often prioritise work as a means of spiritual growth. St. Thomas Aquinas: Although primarily known as a theologian and philosopher, St. Thomas Aquinas also stressed the importance of order and moderation in one's activities, which are essential aspects of productivity. Last week at the Mackinac Policy Conference, we heard yet another prominent leader say that "Michigan is not telling its story well enough." Our approach to filling leadership positions has been to import talent from elsewhere. We convince ourselves that some other city/county/state is doing it right and we are not. So we seek out talent, and we bring them here to solve the problems Michiganders face. But these leaders struggle to tell our story. Because it is hard to tell a story when you haven't lived through the chapters. We need leaders ...that have experienced the resilience of Detroit first hand and respect the women that rule its neighborhoods. ...who have beheld the raw natural beauty of Pictured Rocks, Copper Harbor, Iron Mountain or Sault Ste. Marie. ....who have thrown on a kilt and thrown back a pint at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. ...who have celebrated at Farrell's, shopped at Eastland Mall or Northland Center, went to Thomas M. Cooley High, or rode the boat to Boblo Island as a kid. ...who have witnessed the determination of Flint, the pride of Benton Harbor or the potential of Pontiac. ...who have at least three extended family members employed by the auto industry. ...who have found serenity at that gorgeous beach at the end of that skinny road in the Village of Empire that leads to Lake Michigan, and the most beautiful sunset imaginable. These are Michigan's stories. With new talent comes innovation, new ideas and solutions we haven't identified. We need new talent.
