With trucking supply and demand back to equilibrium, any sudden disruption could lead to an immediate return to a capacity crisis. Both Canadian Class 1 railroads are heading towards a work stoppage tonight. If this occurs and lasts for a day or longer, it will impact you, whether you ship via rail or not. This is because trucks will need to pick up the slack, tender rejections will increase, and the spot market will become more active for a while. It's important to monitor this situation closely. Consider joining NITL for live-action updates on everything important in freight. Members of the National Industrial Transportation League (nitl.org) receive regular updates on situations like this, and information directly from regulators on both sides of the border. https://lnkd.in/gRB5724A

With the potential CN and CPKC rail strike looming on August 22nd, the Canadian transportation landscape could soon face significant disruptions. If a work stoppage occurs, businesses will face significant challenges in maintaining the flow of their inventory. How We Can Help: • Container Destuffing and Transfer: Terminate your container moves at the Ports versus further inland to avoid the rail networks. We receive and destuff your containers in our warehouses across Canada, then transfer to truck to deliver wherever you need. • Truck Delivery Solutions: We ensure your goods are destuffed out of the containers and transported by road versus rail to their final destinations quickly, bypassing the rail bottleneck. • Container Drayage Solutions Across Canada: Terminate your container moves at the Ports and have our team transport your containers from there to final destination on truck chassis instead of rail. • Bonded Transfers to the US: Need to get your containers across the border? We provide seamless bonded transfers to the US from all major cities in Canada. Stay ahead of the disruptions by partnering with Mantoria to keep your goods moving smoothly across Canada. #Canada#Railroads#Strike JUST NOW! Canada's two major railroads are officially completely shut down at the same time! Impact and Response! Just witnessed history once again, as in the previous warning regardless of the union strike or not, the railroad employers preempted the announcement of a work stoppage Lockout! On August 22nd at 0:01 am ET! Canada's two largest Class 1 railroads, CN and CPKC, have officially entered into an unprecedented lockout at the same time, failing to meet a midnight deadline to reach an agreement with their employee union, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference. This will severely impact the Port Canada marine rail-land supply chain also including will further exacerbate rail transit traffic and congestion at U.S. West terminals, especially in the U.S. Northwest! Canada's west coast ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert will be directly and negatively impacted by the rail shutdown, as they rely on railroads for consolidation.CN serves Prince Rupert, where the majority of cargo is shipped inland by rail, and at least half of Vancouver's cargo volume is also shipped by train. Now shippers freight forwarders are implementing alternatives to move cargo. They can either transload cargo onto long-haul trucks or pay a trucking company to haul the containers to Seattle, about three hours south of Vancouver, where the cargo can then be shipped via BNSF Railway or Union Pacific Railroad in the U.S. C.H. Robinson says that with the looming threat of a railroad strike, it's moving some of its U.S. customers' ocean shipments from Canadian ports Diversion. The company said that about 80 percent of the customers that have switched are now exporting through the Los Angeles/Long Beach ports, with the remainder going through the Seattle/Tacoma ports.

The possibility of a rail strike in Canada has cast a shadow over the logistics industry since it was postponed in May. Our VP of Global Supply Chain Paul Brashier spoke with Supply Chain Dive on how the shipping industry has prepared during the postponement. “The best operational plan to avoid these challenges is to terminate imports at the port of entry and use dray off, transload, and one-way trucking to get freight into DC networks,” Brashier said. “It is a very fluid situation and we continue to monitor daily until a resolution is reached.” Read the full article here: https://hubs.li/Q02HRbZV0 #supplychain #supplychainews #canada #rail #intermodal

If you thought the Canadian rail strike wouldn't impact you, you're probably wrong! Shippers are now scrambling and discovering few alternatives as freight movement has shutdown on Canadian railways. If the strike drags on, expect major supply chain and shipping disruptions across North America. Carriers are already re-routing ships from Vancouver to already-busy US West Coast ports. But union port workers may elect not to handle the Canadian freight in support of the railway union workers. Hoepfully they'll settle, but CN labor negotiations do not appear to be going well at the moment. If you haven't already done so, you may want to create a Truckload and/or LTL contingency plan. #rail #trucking #parcel #logistics #supplychain #longlsiandbusiness #crossborder
