Emotion-evoking topics require emotion-aware research methods and long conversations. Please check out the Dying Series that has been employing different design research methods to understand and invoke conversation on death.
🌟 Welcome to the Dying.series LinkedIn Page! 🌟 We are thrilled to launch our official LinkedIn presence, and we invite you to join us in an open, honest, and thought-provoking conversation about death, dying, and what truly matters at the end of life. 💡 What is the Dying.series? Dying. is an event series that explores death through the lens of design and art. We believe that by talking about death, we can better appreciate and understand life. Our series brings together families, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and artists to spark meaningful public dialogue and create a community around this often-taboo topic. Over the past five years, we've welcomed over 5000 attendees, featured 26 speakers, including leading voices in design and healthcare, and showcased the work of 29 exhibiting artists and designers. 🗣 Why Are We Here? We are here to: -Encourage open discussions about death and dying. -Share insights from our events and exhibits. -Highlight the incredible work of our speakers and artists. -Connect with individuals and organizations who share our vision. Let’s get comfortable with the uncomfortable and start talking about what truly matters. Follow us for updates, event announcements, and thought-provoking content. 🗓️ Stay Tuned: Our next event is coming soon! What’s missing from HLTH? The conference brings together some of the biggest names in healthcare, from top executives and politicians to celebrities (Halle Berry, Lenny Kravitz, and others this year). It’s a spectacle that's surely full of insight. But are we missing something important? As a practicing orthopedic surgeon with 15+ years on the frontlines, I believe the conversation needs more voices from those who live and breathe patient care every day. In this week's The Surgeon's Record presented by Commons Clinic, I share what I would have said at HLTH 2024 if given the opportunity to speak. I dive into the gaps between the C-suite and the clinic, the promise (and pitfalls) of AI, and how we can really make value-based care work. 👉 Check out "Un-HLTH-y" for my take on what’s missing at healthcare’s biggest conference, and what needs to change. Read, comment, and share. #healthcare #health #healthtech #hlth2024 #medicine #aiinhealthcare #valuebasedcare

Project Manager | Social Development Researcher | Cross-functional Team Leadership | Biomedical Engineer
In my Percept stories at sunset I explored why I embarked on a career in biomedical engineering and my journey to realising that I need to listen to and incorporate the stories of individuals and communities in the engineering process. This motivated me to make a drastic shift to social systems consulting. This conversation offered me a chance to look back on how the soft skills, systems thinking, and project management expertise from engineering have enriched my work in social systems consulting. Transdisciplinary teams are integral to holistic, inclusive, and sustainable social impact. Watch the video to learn more and feel free to share your thoughts! #Consulting #SystemsThinking #SocialImpact #ProjectManagement #EngineeringSkills #CareerJourney
"Stories at sunset" is a series of conversations with Percept’s people, recorded during the period of the organisation’s intentional sunset. A sunset is an in-between state, at the edges of day and night, before a new dawn. It offers us an opportunity to appreciate, and reflect on, the wisdom of the ‘in-between’, which has always been at the heart of Percept’s work: what might we discover in the wild, unbounded territories between disciplines, between ecology and economy, between social dis-ease and biological disease, between industry silos? What new futures might emerge from the cracks of these in-between spaces? How might the end of this cycle provide nourishment for the next? "There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns." – Octavia E. Butler In this short 5-minute episode, we're in conversation with Yvonne Karanja, discussing biomedical engineering, human-centred design, and the shift from classic specialised engineering to development work. If you’d like to join the conversation, you can do so by reaching out to Yvonne to learn more about her work. David Fryburg, M.D., is working to spread kindness all around via digital images through Envision Kindness. The company streams “kind” images into healthcare settings to reduce stress and anxiety, while increasing joy, compassion, and connection. He and his son co-founded the company in an effort to “promote and inspire kindness, compassion, joy and love in the pursuit of a happier, healthier, and more prosperous world for all.” As a former practicing endocrinologist, Dr. Fryburg has seen how these positive changes are desperately needed in healthcare environments. He says Envision Kindness is scientifically-backed, and that seeing kind images actually activates the same neuropsychology as participating in kindness! Studies show that “kind images” are double as powerful as even “positive” images! Dr. Fryburg is the President and Co-Founder of Envision Kindness.
