🌟 At CoLEAD, we’re pushing the boundaries of #design with computational techniques! For this upcoming library project, we've harnessed the power of parametric #facade design to create shading devices on a geodesic dome. By tessellating the diagrid structure and developing triangulated fins, we've not only achieved a visually striking form but also optimized for sustainability.
🌞 Our innovative approach involved comprehensive daylight and glare studies, ensuring that the interior spaces are bathed in natural light without the discomfort of glare, creating an inviting and comfortable environment for all.
More details on how we analyzed the Daylight optimization will follow soon...

For specifiers looking for the perfect design solution, many options lack the realism and versatility to create an immersive biophilic experience.
We understand the transformation that a space can have through the use of biophilia. Our innovative Texture Wall Panels in Stone and Timber challenge and disrupt the traditional notions that Biophilia must mean greenery.
With their true-to-life tactile appeal and variegated tones, Vtec's Texture Wall Panels can help elevate projects, creating memorable patterns and textures reminiscent of natural environments.
Explore these systems today for inspiration and ideas.

Everybody’s talking about sustainability.
But they are thinking primarily of functions:
Energy saving.
Safety.
Durability.
But what might just be a product’s most important characteristic is usually forgotten: beauty.
In Europe in particular, with its lovely old buildings, we see beauty on a daily basis. The greater the aesthetic qualities of a product or structure, the longer it will last: and we place particularly beautiful objects under preservation orders. But, even without such measures, people tend to treat beautiful things with greater care.
That is why it is so important to focus on beauty: and that is exactly what Finstral does, not only by focusing on the highest quality in terms of workmanship and materials and the perfect functioning of our solutions, but also on the beauty of our products.
Find out more about aesthetics in construction – and the role that windows play in architecture – in this interview with the Belgian architect Perrine Ernest:

At Contrasol, we're passionate about transforming urban spaces into vibrant, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments.
In bustling cityscapes where space is at a premium, car parks often stand as utilitarian structures, lacking visual appeal and architectural significance. We believe that every aspect of the urban landscape should contribute to the overall ambiance and character of a city. With this vision in mind, we design, manufacture and install car park façades that seamlessly blend functionality with stunning design.
Our approach goes beyond mere aesthetics; it's about enhancing the urban experience for both drivers and pedestrians alike. By incorporating elements of modern architecture, sustainable materials, and cutting-edge technology, our car park façades not only provide essential shading and ventilation but also serve as dynamic landmarks within the cityscape.

Kinetic facades, inspired by the natural sway of leaves, replicate the mesmerizing ripple effect seen in nature. Just as leaves gracefully dance in the wind, kinetic facades mimic this motion through carefully designed mechanisms. As the facade panels move in response to external forces, they create a ripple effect that elegantly traverses the surface. This ripple effect not only adds aesthetic charm but also serves a functional purpose.
Much like how leaves sway to dissipate heat and optimize photosynthesis, the movement of kinetic facades aids in regulating the internal environment of buildings. By adjusting the angle and position of the panels, kinetic facades can control the penetration of sunlight, optimize natural ventilation, and enhance energy efficiency. Additionally, the rhythmic motion of the panels creates a dynamic visual experience, connecting occupants with the surrounding environment.
From a marketing standpoint, the concept of mimicking the highly reflective scales of teleost fish offers a unique selling point for architectural design. Just as these reflective scales enhance the visibility of fish, the use of reflective materials in building facades can increase the visibility and prominence of structures, making them stand out in their surroundings. This innovative approach not only elevates the aesthetics of the building but also enhances its identity and presence in the urban landscape.

The following image showcases an open area of a recently completed project where we implemented a sustainable daylighting design strategy.
Integrating daylighting into architectural projects is more than just an aesthetic choice; it's a strategic one.
It's not just about window placement; it involves the strategic use of light to improve energy efficiency, increase occupant productivity, and ensure comfort.
By integrating daylighting, we can create spaces that reduce reliance on artificial lighting, lower energy costs, and improve health by syncing with natural circadian rhythms.
Mastering daylighting is key to sustainable, forward-thinking architecture.
Failing to integrate effective daylighting strategies compromises both the ecological footprint and the livability of spaces.
It’s time to embrace daylighting as a fundamental aspect of sustainable design.
Don't be left in the dark—embrace daylighting and lead the change.

Did you know that temperatures on the sidewalk adjacent to the Walt Disney Concert Hall reached up to 140°F (60°C) due to the concentrated reflections.
Case study : Walt Disney Concert Hall, an beautiful & iconic structure designed by Frank Gehry, encountered significant challenges due to its reflective stainless steel facade. Initially, Gehry envisioned a stone facade for its subtle elegance and nighttime glow. However, influenced by the Guggenheim Bilbao, the client insisted on a metal aesthetic, leading to several unforeseen issues which later resolved:
🔰Glare and Reflections: The polished stainless steel created intense glare, with sunlight reflecting off surfaces causing discomfort and even accidents on nearby sidewalks.
🔰Heat and Energy Consumption: Reflective surfaces increased heat buildup and energy consumption in nearby buildings, particularly affecting the Founders Room and Children's Amphitheater.
Design Challenges and Modifications
✳ The original design called for 12,500 stainless steel panels, each measuring 4 feet by 12 feet (1.2 m × 3.7 m).
✳To mitigate the glare and heat issues, 10% of the panels were sanded to reduce their reflectivity.
✳The sanding process cost an additional $17,000 per panel, totaling approximately $2.5 million for the entire project.
🌍This case underscores the importance of thoughtful material selection and design adaptability in architecture, particularly when aiming for sustainable and functional building solutions. With 40% of global energy consumption attributed to buildings, ensuring that our designs are both beautiful and sustainable is crucial.

Picture a space where the shift from day to night, from outdoor to indoor, is effortless — a place where lighting seamlessly integrates with the environment.
Imagine lighting so perfectly aligned with the occupants' needs that it becomes invisible, functioning flawlessly without conscious thought.
In the realm of lighting, true functional design transcends mere light levels and aesthetics; it's about grasping and anticipating the human experience.
This is the essence of exceptional lighting design.
