Looking forward to our Attendance Summit this Friday ⬇️ What do schools need now? We need a government that listens to, helps and supports school staff. We need policymakers who recognise and appreciate the incredible work that is done every day by schools across the country to transform the lives of children, families and communities. We need a child poverty strategy that eradicates destitution and lifts families out of deep poverty, so that schools can focus more on learning and less on feeding hungry children. We need a more joined up system that promotes and facilitates collaboration and partnership. We need more opportunities to learn from each other, to share good practice and implement innovative approaches.
Final preparations are underway for our Attendance Summit this Friday 5 July at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch. This *free* half day conference is jointly convened by Reconnect London and Mulberry Schools Trust. We will hear from headteachers and educational leaders about how they are working to improve pupil attendance with a focus on: - Inclusive practice - Effective use of data - Partnerships between schools and local authorities - Working with parents and carers - The importance of mental health support 🎟️ Limited FREE tickets available online 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ebhkCZbh

It is World Mental Health Awareness Week! I'd therefore like to shed light on one of the aspects of mental health that is usually ignored. This is the Mental Health Rights. Yes, most individuals, organizations and government entities are sometimes unfamiliar with the Quality Rights for people living with disabilities and mental health conditions. Just to highlight, people living with mental health conditions have the following rights: 1.Right to legal capacity. 2. Right to choose or decline mental health treatment 3. Right to treatment free from biasness, coercion and violence 4. Right to independence, and community inclusion This is just a few among many mental health rights. It is saddening that most of these rights are usually violated knowingly and unknowingly by the general population and mental health practitioners. To promote mental health, we first have to learn about these rights in order to respect them. The World Health Organization offers such a golden opportunity as a way of enhancing mental health awareness to all. Are you willing to learn about mental health rights today? Click on the link below https://lnkd.in/dJ5XZR75 to get a free course on Quality Rights for Mental Health by WHO and be a champion for Mental Health Rights. Happy Mental Health Awareness Week. 😊

This memory box was created by participants in a mental health histories project at Middle Street Resource Centre in Nottingham. We spoke to Dr Verusca Calabria, project lead, for her reflections on running an oral history project. Here’s her top tips: 💡Allow time and resource to build trusting relationships with participants to ensure an equal partnership. 💡Respond to participants' needs – different people will want to engage in different ways. Don’t force a single or rigid approach. 💡Consider the impact of your project on staff, volunteers and participants, and have adequate emotional support available – revisiting the past isn't always a happy experience. 💡Be ambitious about the positive change your project can make to participants' wellbeing and sense of identity. Build in evaluation from the outset to capture that change. The project was made possible thanks to National Lottery players and supported by Nottingham Trent University. This Mental Health Awareness Month, learn from community leaders and community-engaged researchers about the importance of caring for community partners and team members in community-engaged research beyond the provision of resources and equitable compensation. CEACR brought leaders from Critica, Inc and California State University, Los Angeles to discuss how to strengthen research reciprocity and how they practice and promote self-care in their work. How do you practice or promote self-care in your work? Let us know in the comments! ⤵️
