Day two of Global Meta Vinnova #XRHack at Epicenter Stockholm has come to an end after an intensive day for all the hacker and participants. It is incredibly exciting to start to see all the amazing creations unfold from all the hacker stations. There are also exhibitors present, and I got a chance to visit a virtual classroom via ARlicious where we went into space to explore the planets in a fun and interactive way. So - what are the key takeaways for us in the cultural and creative industries? What kind of opportunities could open up as a result? Today we see music education and humaniora being cut down due to lack of funding and resources. In the virtual, immersive world however there are no limits to what can be done to include music, arts and culture in the school environment for the children, and that in new and unexpected formats compared to the physical world. The subjects that are being taught can come alive, the kids are able to speak to main characters from the history books, story telling suddenly comes alive when they can interact with their favourite books. Authors and illustrators suddenly get access to new markets, are able to expand on their material and co-create with the children for extra layers of learning and support. Composers and songwriters can create immersive experiences where the children not only get access to listen and perform themselves, but also learn and explore new ways of music creation, singing and playing. There are no limitations to what we can do in the #phygical #virtal world. And what's so wonderful about this is that just as we are now seeing efforts to bring the physical world into the digital real, the opposite is also taking place where immersive experiences are moving out into the real world. Someone said today that there are only about 3000 #XR experts in the world available. This is so very new, that we are barely scratching the surface of what's to come. If you work within the cultural and creative industries and are looking for new and innovative ways to create, market and sell your artistic work then I highly recommend you learn more about #AI #GenerativeAI #web3 #VR #AR #XR to better understand what can be achieved with these new technologies. This is exactly what we do with Arts Dynamics, connect the intersection between creativity, tech and innovation to help artists and creatives to monetise what you do from idea to execution and beyond. In the coming days we will launch a brand new Arts Dynamics Creative Arts/Tech Meetup-Memebership to foster collabroation, networking and support between the arts and tech arenas. This is a natural next step from our Talks and Meetups these past few years. If you want to know more, send a DM for more info or email sofie@artsdynamics.com Thanks Saima Usman for the photo and Muhammad Usman Asif #ARlicious for a fun experience. --- Thanks Albert Bengtson Roland Williams and team #XRHack for another great day!

In today’s world of rapid technological advancement 🚀, Augmented Reality (AR) has transformed our reality, bringing imagination to life like never before. Upskilling in such technologies always fills me with enthusiasm and a drive to learn and upgrade. I am thrilled 🎉 to announce that I have successfully completed Phase 2 of the Creators of Metaverse Student Program 🎓. This month-long AR learning has equipped me with the skills to create basic level AR projects using Meta Spark Studio . Over the course of the program, I delved into various aspects of AR creation. From creating interactive AR effects with Meta Spark and exploring patches & groups for logic building, to understanding complex AR functionalities and optimizing them, each session was a deep dive into the fascinating world of AR 🌐. I’ve learned to create various effects with audio and interactive AR effects, which has significantly broadened my understanding of the field 🎧. This program, organized by 1M1B and supported by AICTE and Meta Platforms Inc., provided an invaluable opportunity to delve into AR development. I am excited 😃 to be part of the AR revolution and look forward to applying these skills to create immersive experiences 🌟. #AR #AugmentedReality #MetaSpark #CreatorsOfMetaverse #1M1B #AICTE 🎉

You can study a language by sitting with a textbook, looking at pictures of situations, writing, and repeating words. Or, you can immerse yourself directly in these scenarios—seeing the words in a 3D environment, visually connecting them with objects or concepts, and understanding how they change depending on direction, location, or action. Instantly practicing and applying these words within the space helps solidify them in your memory. This spatial perception of language formed in a virtual environment offers a clear, hands-on way to understand and retain new concepts. For the past few months, our AXiiO VR Studio, in collaboration with Haaga-Helia University and the MAKU project, has been developing an exciting VR app Sanaria for learning Finnish, specifically designed for professional and workplace use. Creating a game-like model in VR has been a challenging yet rewarding experience. We decided to move away from using controllers and instead rely solely on hand tracking, making the experience more natural, intuitive, and engaging. We believe, developing gesture control is the most promising method for VR. Controllers are becoming outdated, except in a few cases where physical objects are needed. However, we realized that a brief tutorial on interactive gestures would be helpful for users, so we included one. This approach came with its challenges. We initially used Meta Building Blocks, which weren’t entirely suitable for our intended functionality. By writing complex scripts and modules, we tailored the controls to fit the unique mechanics required for our VR experience, combining various interactive elements within one project. Users can now touch, grab, and place objects with their fingers, manipulate items from a distance, highlight correct and incorrect words, press buttons, and even move through space using teleportation—all without controllers, simply by using hand gestures to direct the beam (something Meta surprisingly still doesn’t offer!). A big thank you to Mikko Toiviainen and Lauri Wuolio for the collaboration! If you're interested in this kind of experience, feel free to reach out—we’d be happy to answer any questions. #HaagaHelia #MAKU #LanguageLearning #VirtualReality #EdTech #Innovation #FinnishLanguage

K. Guillory / Aemeth has been documenting arts & culture trends on social VR platforms like #VRChat on her The Metaculture magazine for ~3 years. This interview from a couple of years ago points to a number of trends featured at this year's #RaindanceImmersive & digs into the history of VRChat's clubbing scene, fashion, live music, & performance. Also bonus, I go down a deep rabbit hole of VRChat's origin story within the write-up. This episode has made me think deeply about different ways of capturing and telling the story of the history of a place. My pluralistic approach defaults to telling many different stories from different perspectives, and there's also a lot of value in different video documentaries that have told different shards of the history of VRChat from both a platform POV, a history of the underground clubbing scene, and different personal stories, memories, turning points, and moments of collective significance. Overall, there's so much room for innovation in actually using the medium of VR to tell the story of the history of VR, and ultimately this type of episode kicks the can down the road a bit, even if just subtly. It's still primarily a traditional audio podcast episode, but YouTube Twice's "History of VRChat 2014-2022" opened a bit of a portal into figuring out ways to weave together not only my own story, but also the story of a cultural movement through the eyes of another cultural chronicler, but also to do a bit of an archeological dig on the Internet archive to piece together more of the origin of VRChat as a platform itself when the r/Oculus was the epicenter of the indie VR developers and enthusiast consumers. So some experimentation in the form of writing and capturing elements of that story. But ultimately where this type of form may be going is through oral histories that are overlaid as AR layers on top of some of these virtual worlds and experiences -- or perhaps 360 video captures of them as a form of archiving the ephemerality of these virtual worlds. Anyway, that's all more in the future, but this interview may be a bit of personal turning point in how I think about ways to capture and share stories with the aspiration to find new forms to continue to bring history alive so that the past informs the present. My focus is on XR at the moment, but it feels much bigger. There's got to be more ways to use the medium of VR itself to push forward the form of telling the story of collective biography, psychogeography + AR in virtual spaces, and ultimately the story of place. If any of this is interesting, then be sure to check out this episode and some of the breadcrumbs of history that I aggregated here. https://lnkd.in/g8eBc8ap

Metaverse & XR Pioneer. Senior Advisor - Strategist. Founder ONE Digital Consulting. President VR/AR Association Madrid Chapter, Global Co_Chair VR/ARA Education Committee.
Generative #AI in #ImmersiveEducation Now Dear Fooligans and followers of #vraraeducommittee VR/AR Association (VRARA), over the past few months, we have been heavily focused on analyzing, studying, and evaluating the impact of #ArtificialIntelligence on #Education and its various formats. Far from being swayed by the megabloggers of #XR devices, we focus on the core of our activity, which is value and content. This isn't just about goggles, stupid... Sorry ;+). And if we don't have a good understanding of what we're talking about, we may make many mistakes that we might regret in the future. Today, it seems like everyone is using #AI for everything. Mistake. They use some tools or programs, but in a less efficient and almost token manner. Integrating technologies into the workflow of our daily activity is a complex process that requires a deep understanding of the value of the tools, how to apply them, and what we expect to gain from them... and only then will we be able to contribute value and benefit to the educational ecosystem. In our next #vraraeducommittee, we will have as very special guest Paula MacDowell, PhD, talking about "Generative AI in Immersive Education and Instructional Design". Paula MacDowell, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, specializing in Educational Technology and Design (ETAD). Paula serves as the Director of Immersive Practice for the Immersive Learning Research Network #iLRN. She works closely with teachers to integrate media, technology, and XR in their classrooms to enhance learning experiences Paula is a tireless researcher, having conducted evidence-based studies on the use of immersive technologies in education, being one of the main values of ILRN, where she shares her experiences with professionals from all over the world, and the place where we met years ago. I have had the opportunity to collaborate in several international sessions on Metaeducation and advanced technologies applied to the classroom alongside my friend Colleen Bielitz, Ph.D., truly inspiring. She has recently published an interesting book on Immersive Education. It's always a pleasure to listen to and learn from Paula's experiences. We look forward to a session you can't miss. #vrar4edu #xr4edu #generativeAI #AI4Edu #immersiveEducation VR/AR Association (VRARA) VRARA Madrid ONE Digital Consulting

Our Chief Technology Officer, Anton Christodoulou, is in Las Vegas for this year's CES 2024. Speaking exclusively with Innovation & Tech Today, Anton shares his key takeaways from the world's biggest tech fair. "Many people will say that AI defined CES, but while it was everywhere, it did not move the needle and was arguably less impactful than CES 2023 in terms of real-world advances. It appeared in more products, some with valuable benefits and some with dubious ones. What took centre stage this year, however, was immersive technology in its many forms." Meta has just revealed Orion, their groundbreaking AR glasses, after nearly a decade of development. These fully standalone glasses feature eye, hand, and even neural tracking for a next-level AR experience. When Meta's team first embarked on this project, they gave it a slim 10% chance of success—but Orion has exceeded all expectations. With a wide FOV display, lightweight design (less than 100g), and wireless functionality, Orion proves that the dream of AR glasses isn't just possible—it's here. Meta is already using Orion internally to shape the future of AR experiences, laying the groundwork for what consumers will experience in the years to come. 🌐🔮 What do you think? Are you ready for the next generation of AR? #metaai #meta #artificialintelligance #innovation #innovateintelligence
