Welcome Call with Gayethri (Art Teacher from Singapore) How I set the foundation for her success ? This week, I had an inspiring welcome call with Gayethri from Singapore, a passionate art teacher who recently joined my course "CANVAS TO CASH". The welcome call is one of my favourite part of this journey. It’s where I get to connect with amazing art teachers, understand their goals, and help them take their first steps toward building a successful art teaching business. Here’s what happens in welcome call in my course: 1.Firstly , I focus in shifting mindset from “just teaching” to building a sustainable, profitable art teaching business. 2. Then I assign specific tasks to kickstart their journey and set a deadline to stay on track. 3.After that I guide them to write down clear, actionable goals to keep them focused and motivated throughout the course. Gayethri is now ready to dive into the modules with clarity and confidence. I can’t wait to see her transform her passion for art into a successful venture! I help art teachers who dream of growing art classes and want to earn more from art classes. DM me if you want to personalized guidance and a clear plan for success of your art classes. Only 1 seat left for my 1:1 Art Teacher Roadmap session.

#5fingersofuturetech works on the concept of visual communication be it diagrams, drawings or annotations they are all ways of communicating a idea from one person to another or to many! Understanding these underpinning concepts of literacy are critical to the ability for all students to access learning! I would argue that these common communication literacies and the use of common language across the silos of learning contexts is what has lead to our current world rankings. The solutions are really quite simple, creating in our students a deep understanding and knowledge of ‘ways of working’ in relation to living a particular pathway. Our job as educators is to create opportunities for the students to find their pathway of learning and become passionate about it, as early as possible. Engagement then looks after itself, as every child has abilities, they just need opportunities to show them!

My Biggest failure in art teaching From 60 Students to 25 A few years ago, I hosted a workshop with 60 students. I was over the moon. But in the next session, only 25 showed up. I was heartbroken and kept asking myself, “What went wrong?” Instead of giving up, I took a step back to reflect. That experience became one of my greatest learning, and here’s what I learned: 1. Having a full class is great, but it’s meaningless if students don’t feel connected. So focus on quality, not just quantity. 2.I started asking students what they loved and what they wanted more of. Their input helped me improve and adapt. 3.It’s not just about teaching, it’s about making your classes memorable, enjoyable, and worth returning to. That “failure” taught me how to become a better teacher and create classes that students love. Fast forward to today, my students often say, “Teacher, the class just started, how is it already over?” Hearing those words gives me a deep sense of satisfaction, knowing I’ve created a space they truly enjoy. A note for art teachers - Create your art class environment comfortable for your students and see the magic of connections and creativity. Need help in building engaging art classes? Let’s connect—I’d love to guide you.

We started Compass North because we love making our community more art literate. Ok, big term, homie. What does that even mean? It’s the ability to engage critically with art and culture. It’s feeling comfortable and excited talking to your friend about the movie you saw together. It’s understanding how a piece of art created today relates to one from two hundred years ago. It’s being able to easily and clearly write about the concepts and intentions behind your own art. Art can be weird and vague. Being art literate, you can view, process and contextualise it. It isn't about being a theory junkie. It's about moving toward a more fulfilling connection with art by being able to make meaning from it (and the larger world it connects us to). The more you do the following, the easier it gets: 1. Read more about art. Look up reviews after you visit a show. Subscribe to arts media newsletters for their latest articles (or to our sticky teeth reading lists!). 2. Practice sharing your thoughts and knowledge about art. Bring a journal to galleries and jot down notes, or chat with your friend describing what you do and don’t like about certain pieces. To go a step further: book a consultation with us on how to build art literacy into your art space or art practice, whether for yourself, your team or your audiences. https://buff.ly/4eo81rN Image ID | A beige background with black text reading, "WHAT IS ART WORLD LITERACY?" above a photo of a stack of books. #ArtWorld #ArtistSupport
