Colorado, nestled in "hail alley," faces unpredictable hail seasons. Climate change has added complexity to this; new research shows the frequency of hail increasing in Australia and Europe while decreasing in the U.S. and East Asia — but it shows the severity, and thus size, of hail increasing everywhere. It is imperative to understand the vulnerability of homes today to prepare for the storms tomorrow. Arturo's AI-driven analysis shows 2.87% of roofs in Colorado are in poor condition, providing an opportunity for all property stakeholders, including the owners themselves, to work together, remediate damage to reduce risk, and keep everyone safer. In recent years, we have witnessed a concerning trend of storms and extreme weather events occurring with increased frequency and intensity. The recent storm that hit Ventura County in Southern California, causing significant coastal flooding, serves as yet another reminder of this growing phenomenon. Looking at the record of waves and storm surges from the stations near Ventura can provide more insights. The figure below shows the record of wave heights from NOAA’s Santa Barbara Wave Buoy and the storm surges from NOAA’s Santa Monica Tide Station since the year 2000, with symbols denoting peak wave events above 20 ft and peak storm surge events above 1 ft. Since 2015, it has been clear that extreme storm events have consistently taken place at least once every year! This trend serves as a clear indicator of the impacts of climate change on our coastal regions. Rising sea levels, warming oceans, and shifting atmospheric patterns have contributed to the intensification and increased frequency of storms along our coastlines. Coastal communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems are all at risk. The importance of forward-looking coastal resiliency and adaptation planning has never been more crucial!

🔄 The sad reality is that last year, this The New York Times headline would have read in REVERSE! 🔄 "The Fingerprints on Chile’s FLOODS and California FIRES" 🚨 The world is facing a #climateemergency and yet the vast majority of us seem either unaware of unconcerned until it directly impacts them... ...but the truth is that IT IS 'directly' impacting ALL OF US, just not to the same devastating extent...yet! 💡 Can't we all just agree on the ONE SIMPLE FACT that our warming world is making these weather events MORE common and MORE extreme. 🌏 Ultimately, the Earth is increasingly sending us signals that it's under attack due to our activities, with industrial #animalagriculture widely recognized as being one of the leading causes of #globalwarming (+ #waterusage, oceanic dead zones, rampant land clearing, #biodiversityloss, pollution, land and water degradation, etc ETC!) And that's why I'm determined to do my utmost to invest in a better world, because if we maintain our current environmental trajectory, our children - AND their children - will be expected to live with the consequences. It all boils down to our daily habits/activities, and the greatest way to combat the disastrous effects of #climatechange and reduce our #carbonfootprint starts with your plate. 🙏🌱 LESS MEAT = LESS HEAT 🙏🌱

☔️ More and more, the effects of climate change are being felt in our daily lives. 🇺🇸 This week, 22 million people in California are under a flooding alert due to an "atmospheric river". Last year, a similar weather event caused US$ 4.2bn in damages and claimed the lives of 20 people according to BBC News. 🌎 It's clear that the impact of climate change is a pressing issue for people and businesses. Let's continue to work towards making sure people know what they are facing, and how climate adaptation and transparency helps us all. #climatechange #climateadaptation #climatetransparency #sustainability

This is a fascinating article. The cyclone events discussed are not only the ones in the US (although the US gets far more cyclones than any other country). Cyclones are a worldwide phenomenon. But unfortunately because of where the US is situated on Earth the US get more of a lot of the bad weather and other natural events than any other country. One can discuss climate change or one can deny that climate change is occurring. What one cannot deny is that severe weather events are occurring more frequently and with significantly more destructive in force. These destructive events are going to tax the resources of many countries but the real significance of this article is the death toll. It appears the death toll from Hurricanes (cyclones) is exponentially higher and over a longer period of time than the momentary news media reports. https://lnkd.in/e7iyJWcx

From fires in New Mexico and California to the East Coast heat waves to tropical storms in the Gulf, North America is experiencing accelerating extreme weather events. Such events are the new normal because of the relentless burning, extraction & expansion of fossil fuel by companies that drive the climate crisis. Scientists and the IPCC have long warned what our fossil fuel addiction would unleash. Our climate is imploding faster than we can cope with, with extreme weather events hitting every corner of the planet. And while, all over the world, these extreme weather events are getting stronger & more dangerous, killing people & destroying entire ecosystems, fossil fuel companies keep making record profits. Surging temperatures and extreme weather events demand a surge in action. World leaders must turn up the heat NOW for climate solutions — starting with a fast, fair, and full phaseout of ALL fossil fuels. #ActOnClimate #FossilFuelPhaseOut #ClimateAction

Climate change: Epic Storms Batter California 🌧️ California is seeing torrential rain and dangerous winds this week, causing flooding, mudslides, and power outages. Over 500,000 were without power Monday night across the state. Los Angeles was hit especially hard, with over 120 mudslides reported and rainfall topping 9 inches in some areas. Nearly two feet of snow also fell in parts of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Scientists say climate change is intensifying these "atmospheric river" storms. As the atmosphere warms, it holds more moisture, increasing the potential for extreme rainfall. The storm also shows signatures of El Niño, which typically brings heavy precipitation in the early months of the year. #climatechange #sustainability

California is reeling under the onslaught of a second Category 5 atmospheric river, leaving over 800,000 residents without power and under the threat of life-threatening floods and mudslides. The storm has thrown Californians into chaos, with roadways flooded and travel becoming hazardous. This severe weather event shows the urgent need to address climate change and bolster our resilience to its impacts. Questions about the state's preparedness and strategies for such extreme weather events are now more pertinent than ever. #CaliforniaStorm #ClimateChange #AtmosphericRiver #PowerOutages #FloodThreat #Mudslides #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis #InfrastructureResilience #ClimateAdaptationStrate

"The heat that human activities are adding to the atmosphere and oceans is like steroids for hurricanes," said Bernadette Woods Placky, chief meteorologist at Climate Central, Inc. 🌀 A new study found the sea surface temperature around Milton’s path was 400-800 times more likely because of the #climatecrisis. “If humans keep heating the #climate, we will keep seeing storms rapidly morph into monster hurricanes, leading to more destruction," she said. We must stop funding the burning and extraction of #fossilfuels immediately. This could not be more imperative.
